Okay, I'll plead ignorance on the mechanicals - but the 319s that are being refreshed now will be nothing to what is going to happen when they're cascaded.

I'd hope the 313s will be getting THAT work, not what's going on now. Mechanically, they seem pretty sound. Most faults seem to be down to the doors now, as they run in most weather conditions and hardly ever fail on the power switchover.

As would I. If we're going to be having these NXEMU's running around, then the 313's will soon start to seem very old and non-passenger friendly (if you get my gist, e.g no CIS, lack of DDA compliance etc.) compared to them and the 365's..

Mind you, I'm surprised that the 321's were fitted with CCTV but not CIS, seems odd not to do both at the same time.

The 317/1s were done in two stages as well. CCTV first, then screens - and then, some considerable time after, the software to actually drive the screens!

FCC said that there was no requirement in the franchise to add CIS to the 319s, so they didn't (nor CCTV). FCC has also not added CCTV to the 365s, leaving their flagship (pre 377) fleet lacking in a rather important feature.

I understand grandfather rights not forcing CCTV and CIS to be added, but I am disappointed that the DfT couldn't have made it a requirement that CIS is added to ALL trains by a certain date.

At night, there are always loads of passengers who don't have a clue what station the train is at - and when it's crowded in rush hour, it's always down to other passengers to say 'it's xxx' because they've kept count or can recognise features of the station without seeing the incredibly poorly lit signs.

Talking of which, how expensive would LED/solar illuminated signs for platforms be?

The GN does seem to be bad for signage at night. I know when I went up to see an ex last year I was abit worried as I'd never been that far and couldn't make out most stations.

Some stations have the new signs with black/blue text on white background, while others still have white text on the old Wagn-purple backgrounds. Neither are that easy to read (the new ones have smaller text), but the old-Wagn ones are near impossible.

At many stations, the signs aren't underneath platform lights either!

Last I heard they were due to be replaced way before the mid 2020's, could of changed though.
