My favourite view of the railway is that its a useful system that gets passengers from point to point for a fair price without interuption or delay ;)

I always enjoy looking at freight sidings and being amazed at the complexity of the individual rails.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the sea wall at Teignmouth. The signals and the trains have changed since I used to trainspot there in early 1980s but nothing else appears to have changed.

Mine would have to be looking from Dent station up the valley of Dentdale to Arten Gill and Dent Head viaducts, more so when there's a steam charter coming down the line and you see the steam rising out of Blea Moors air vents. Never get tired of it!

That's a very good suggestion and we shall be doing the same later on this morning!

Not physically seen the following but after watching the latest 'All the stations' upload, I would really like to.

The stations around the Whitby area - some of which I believe are a Heritage line - looked well worth a look at in the flesh....

...abroad, then travelling [and facing] South between Narbonne and Perpignan - the foothills of the Alps in the distance on one side and similarly the Pyrenees on the right.

Plus, if you pick the right time of year, large flocks of flamingos feasting in the salt lakes and on the odd occasion, white horses and black bulls..

The Road to the Isles, Fort William to Mallaig.
Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh.

Not as pleasant as they used to be in mk1 vacs but still a wonderful journey.

A location between Foncett and Flordon where what was known as "the swimmer" departed from the GEML to Wymondham. Long closed by the time I knew the area but, as a young man it's where I lost my virginity in the back of my Vauxhall Victor VX490!

A VX490! Now there's posh. Were you watching the trains at the same time?

In addition to many parts of Devon and Cornwall mentioned, I love the views between Perranwell and Penmere on the Falmouth line. I always forget how good it is.

Also, the Cambrian Coast of course. Namely Dovey Junction - Aberdovey; Llwyngwril - Fairbourne; Morfa Mawddach - Barmouth (Both sides of Barmouth bridge), at Llanaber. Also Pensarn at dusk with the sun hitting the water of the small harbour there. And of course, the stretch of beach you see when approaching Harlech. So so good - I could go backwards and forwards all day on this line!

Rannoch to Corrour - especially in winter (or on a summer morning / evening from the sleeper lounge car).

Plus another mention for the Cambrian Coast. I walked Morfa Mawddach - Barmouth a few weeks ago - a great railway ride and walk.

For me, it has to be 3 different views of the Forth Bridges from afar, as well as being on the rail bridge itself.

1. View of Edinburgh across the water and the bridges from Burntisland, particularly on a sunny cloudless day.

2. View of the bridges from Livingston South (I think that's where it is) in the evening as the lights start to come on. Even better when sat in the Sleeper lounge car eating Haggis, Neeps and Tatties

3. View of the bridges from just South of Stirling (a railway easter egg not many people know about), particularly in a hazy sunset.

The ride west from Exeter St Davids to Newton Abbot:
Crossing the Royal Albert Bridge into Cornwall and then looking back to the bridge after Saltash Station.
Arriving into Truro and the view of our Cathedral.
The view after Hayle to St Erth across to Lelant, especially when the Hayle estuary is full.
Approaching Penzance and the view of St Michaels Mount.
The journey from St Erth to St Ives. Even though I am born and bred there and have done the journey thousands of times, I still love the ride. I still get enjoyment, standing on St Ives harbour and seeing the trains arrive and depart from St Ives station. Working away from home it's the main thing I miss.

Somehow, the view when travelling east is just not the same.

I do this journey four times per day, four days per week and I never get bored of seeing it. Just spectacular, and shows just what the navvies had to negociate to build this railway!

Sat at Woodford (Central Line) westbound platform 2 with green signals ahead of you.

Or listening to a Class 37 somewhere on the Cumbrian Coast...

An under-rated one IMHO: heading eastbound between Brough and Hull with the banks of the Humber close to the line and the Humber Bridge in view
