Mine would have to be 323 232, as when I was new to trainspotting I saw it at Alderley Edge with a nice driver who gave a few tones, along with the motor noises.

37275 - my fastest ever transit of the Severn Tunnel. It's unlikely to be beaten as the 'black box' would get the driver into trouble nowadays. Even back in the day HSTs didn't even come close.

Mostly the ones that are stalking me: 345053, 345057, 345068, and 345069. Also, the 390 which remains the first and only train I've ever cabbed (390134 or 390137 I seem to recall - I can't remember off the top of my head though), and 800001 (for complicated reasons). I would say any of the ex-EMT Sprinter fleet, but as they're not individual trains, I won't include them.

I have 331107 (Northern), 333001 (Northern), 170474 (Northern) and 800103 (LNER).

My personal favourite is 331107 from Northern. That unit started my rail adventures, was my first ever CAF Civity and always puts a smile on my face when I see that one around. I have already made some great memories from 107! Taken me across the Airedale route and down to Doncaster too! That unit has held the title of my favourite train unit since.

It still remains in Yorkshire after it was cancelled a few times during the 331 swap between Yorkshire and the North West.

By far the best sounding loco was 37906 (a.k.a. Slug 6}
37003 (if only because I've been a member of its owning group for over 30 years}

I'm wondering what criteria you use to determine your favourites? That seems like rather a long list of units to me.

Same criteria as most I should imagine. A combination of best riding in a particular class or a sentimental reason for liking them.

No problem at all. Personally I've zero interest in units and find them boring as hell, especially EMUs. But whatever floats your boat.

I feel the same about locomotives and slam-door EMUs, but yes, whatever floats one's boat. Didn't grow up with them so not really interested.

314203 was my favourite of the 314 units, mainly because it was able to survive such a tragic incident, which was the crash at Newton in July 1991. It would later become a unique train (having it’s damaged car be replaced with a Class 507 one), and then being given the name of European Union. Shame that the 507 car from it got scrapped.

87031 'Hal o' the Wynd' - such an evocative name and a representative of my favourite class of AC electric loco, 37404 'Ben Cruachan' or, latterly, 'Loch Long', and 37411.

All now scrapped, although I own a 4mm scale version of 37404 in condition appropriate to the 1993 setting of my layout, and in the case of 37411 they cut off it's nose which now fortuitously resides in the beer garden of one of my favourite pubs in Derby.

Of locos still extant then I would say 37403 - I have some fond memories of that one from down the years since it's 'celebrity' repaint in BR green in 1994, and have encountered it fairly often in more recent times. That or 37424 - I generally have a soft spot for class 37/4s.
