Favourite individual trains

I remember some of my first train journeys being on Class 423 4 VEP taking them down to Bournemouth or up to college at Brockenhurst, and even sn occasional trip to Soton. The fun of slam door trains.

Favourite thought was 7700 which was an amalgam of 3 carriages from a 4-VEP and a driving unit from a CIG, so making a 4-VIG. I had a photo somewhere in 35mm black & white. Sent it to Modern Railways, but sadly it was never published.

43061, named "The Fearless Foxes" after my team, and managed to drive it despite it spending most of it's time on hire to LNER.

For similar reasons (apart from the driving bit) 66738 is a favourite... though can I still call it a favourite when I've yet to see it?

Most of my "favourites" other than that are now at the great roundhouse in the sky:- 37430, 56056, my namesake B-17...

Possibly 90006 as it’s named after my favourite magazine. I know there are 66(s?) named after the same magazine but obviously the 90 is better for me.

Similar to some posts here, I'm not one for noting numbers but I can't help but notice the amount of times 158856 has shown up for me when I've got the train

142003 is the train I've been looking at for years now as my own (bad) picture of it has been my phone and computer background for quite some time now (with the computer lock screen change coming in later on) and for that it has earned a special place, one of the few units I can say has a number that means something to me more than just being a train I need to see (one day 150145 will leave Wolverton).

That's a strange one to elude you - was a Stratford loco throughout the 1970s and 80s and a regular on passenger trains on the GEML then transferred to Eastfield in 1989 and was again a regular on passenger trains on the Fife Circle in 1991.

It sure was. 47114 was stabled one day at east sidings at manchester victoria early 80s.mate rang me and as i live in manchester i took a short bus journey and by the time i got to victoria it had left eastbound.

390045. I had a Hornby train set of it as a kid. Well, I guess I still have it. Also just realised that it was Virgin's Pride train. I like that too.

55007 it hauled me to York in 1979.
24082 I saw it passing Willesden on the last days of the 24s…totally surprised to see it.
44005 the only 44 I ever saw at Stoke-on-Trent late 70s.
25309 and 25312 used to see them a lot.
450041 with 444015 had a failure at Basingstoke many years ago, so I always remember…although we did get moving that night it was bundles of fun.
5863 fatality unit so I always remember.

47010 per my avatar, was the first 47 I ever recorded for haulage and also one of the few non-ETH 47s I managed over 1,000 miles off.

Even after I gave up on the enthusiast bit and became a normal traveller, seeing 87014 always made me smile as I drove it on a passenger train - I'm sure the driver involved is long-retired now, but we'll just say that the early 80s was a very different time to the present.

You did well to clear 47010 for 1,000, especially with it being a Petroleum loco in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

It was previously of course a Stratford boilered loco, and I had it a few times in those days (once on an ECML overnight as well). I pushed it over 1,000 when it did the Nottingham-Blackpool vice-Sprinter diagram (a nice 300-mile out and back) three or four times in 1987.

Honestly, I have a couple:
170 470

334 012

334 004 is probably my favourite of the Class 334 units, due to the fact it was the last one to keep it’s SPT livery (it got the Saltire one in 2015), and I get very nostalgic of those times back in the 2000s.

The opposite reason is also why I love 334 006 & 012, as part of the Bathgate electrification, they were the first two units to get the Saltire livery in 2010, while keeping their SPT interiors till 2015. And 006 is now got that Pride Livery front, which looks very nice.

I also have a soft spot for 170 470 & 471, as they where the first two SPT based Class 170 units, and are unique in being some of the only Scotrail 170s not to have first class seats.

It has a different meaning to me, if you look at some of the old VT class 390 'Virgin ....' names, there's a very suspicious pattern. So when I see this, I think of D1009 'Western Invader'.
