Not sure how much help first aiders would have been. Luckily there was a police and EMS presence.
Very, very sad news, and my thoughts go out to all those involved.

There was a 26 second silence held in memory of the victims, and the 26th Mile Mark was decorated in their memory.
As would be featured on a lot of Arabic and other TV Stations , strange how The West seems squeamish in comparison.
It is an interesting idea - we have no idea it would appear..

Always saddened and sickens me, what humans can do to our brethren, whatever the idealism behind it.
Having lost a past work colleague to the 7/7 bombings, these new terrible incidents always provoke a feeling of melancholy within me. May the madness stop one day.

Indeed, although I'm saddened to hear this horrible news, bombs go off in the Middle East on a daily basis, yet the British news and social networks don't get filled with discussion about those, just because it's a regular occurence doesn't make it any less sad.

Am I the only one both angered and absolutely dumbfounded by this Tweet? I know there are a lot of Merseysiders who've been through a lot in recent years, but how on earth are these two comparable? It just seems like she's using it as another platform to promote the Hillsborough campaign. How many Glasgow and Bradford MPs in this case have also laid claim as both of their cities have seen sporting disasters? Idiots. Idiots everywhere.

It is just the typical crass and shameless opportunism that one now comes to expect from Maria Eagle.
That's unreal, but it seems that Twitter brings out the worst in people when something like this happens.
There were also the conspiracy theories (the Government did it) out last night/yesterday afternoon (US time) and loads of unconfirmed rumours and stories, such as how many killed, a suspect arrested and accusations of it being down to the muslims... Oh and a fake BostonMarathon Twitter account set up claiming to donate money for every re-tweet.
Twitter is always going to be quick to break news, but within a matter of an hour or so it also becomes impossible to know what's going on. At least the news media (even Sky!) generally hold off reporting things until confirmed, or make it very clear. Fox News was showing raw feeds early on with no editing, showing loads of blood and likely dead bodies (that nobody could have known at the time).
Perhaps the worst thing I saw was Sky's 'Skystrator' with the reporter drawing lines around where the explosions happened (when you could quite clearly see for yourself). Shouldn't that system be kept purely for sport broadcasting? Following that was a tech site that decided to publish all the tweets and horrible pictures, stating it was relevant to technology as it covers cultural issues too. The real reason was clear; trying to get easy web traffic.
Sadly, everyone seems to see these things as an opportunity for different reasons.

I sincerely hope this has nothing to do with terrorism but as with pretty much everyone I doubt that...
The FBI are treating it as an act of terrorism. (I would quote but I haven't got the time right now.)
In my opinion it is just as well it was at the end. The damage to human life would have been far greater had it been at the start of the race with many thousands of people effectively trapped in an minute area with only a couple of directions to run in.
