Boston Marathon explosions

  • Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon have left an unknown number of people injured.

  • Video and photographs from Boston show a scene of confusion, with emergency services descending on the scene and bloodied spectators being taken to a medical tent.

  • "There are a lot of people down," said one runner quoted by AP news agency.

Nobody knows yet, anything else would be speculation.....so I will speculate.

Two blasts within a short radius within seconds, strikes me as some sort of utility explosion.

Every news report coming out of official sources (including those connected to the marathon) suggest the use of bombs, though initially I would have followed Darandio's thoughts.

Boston Marathon (officially via BBC News) confirms two bombs exploded. Unconfirmed reports of around 3 fatalities and "dozens" of casualties. Very nasty stuff.

Somebody listening to the Boston Police on a scanner, they have told all officers they're about to do a controlled explosion.

Just read about the controlled explosion, I guess they're getting rid of something unexploded!

Looking at the aerial photos, I too thought "utilities" at first. Could it have been a rogue utilities worker planting devices? Who knows...?

I'd be more inclined to say rogue terror cell.

Most people will immediately assume Islamist attack but as it's America it could be anti-abortion/anti-gun control etc.

Not their style. Could be someone on their behalf though..

For all their hype and rhetoric (which is mainly propaganda aimed at their own people), North Korea would never dare launch an act of aggression against the US, because they know that it would result in annihilation of the regime.

Unrelated according to reports. But it is just blind panic at the moment.

One saving grace was that two bombs went off near the finish line with it's collection of First Aiders on hand to help the casualties.

Some pictures floating around look very nasty. Thoughts with everyone who got killed by bombs today... there were quite a few in the middle east today too which left over 30 dead.
