If someone buys a ticket, say Peterborough-London and they buy a single when they meant to buy a return, would you be able to excess the single to a return on the day of the return journey?
I think it's fine if excessed at the ticket office of issue shortly after - but at the destination it would be too easy for someone to pick up a random used ticket and try to blag it.
Indeed. This was asked on here recently - there's no obligation for booking office staff to sell the excess, but it certainly is sensible, and good customer service.
