From time to time the GWR Night Riviera sleeper service has been formed of daytime stock such as a HST, or IET.
However, are there any historic examples where sleeper stock has stood in for daytime services in some form of rolling stock emergency?
A couple of 'grey areas' are the Caledonian Sleeper seating coach acting as a normal reservation-only daytime train between Edinburgh and Fort William, and the GWR 57's that operated Bristol-Weymouth (I think) summer Saturday services. I am sure there are much more interesting examples from the past.
