Big night tonight! More political voting by the Eastern bloc countries and another embarassing night for us Brits. We could get Elton John singing and still finish near the bottom of the heap! The French song is superb this year and must be one of the favorites to win.

Last I checked France wasn't in the Balkans so they won't win . I thought the Ukraine's entry was a good one (Angel I think the title - I wasn't concentrating on the title )

Not heard Germany's entry (Lena again) but really anyone but Jedward!

Have they re-introduced a neutral judging panel percentage of vote in addition to the public vote from each of the countries? I just heard they had done.

It's one of those things people say they never watch, but then they end up doing just that...

Yes, that was (re)introduced last year - it's a 50% split between televotes and the judges which is the right balance between bloc voting and engaging the public (apparently it's quite popular abroad)

The Irish have been deliberatley taking the yellow stuff out of the contest for a few years now. And this year is no exception

We could win if we tried - ie if we entered Iron Maiden their fanbase would ensure a win. But given the BBC's budget cuts it could do without a win! At the moment it gets 7 hours of TV for very little outlay (mostly satellite links), hosting it is another matter...

Block voting isnt as bad now with non-Eastern Europe coutries winning recently.

Really? It always get mentioned for weeks leading up to on BBC One, including on the news, unless you don't watch TV I find that hard to believe you've never heard of the whole thing before!

Mainly because some of the "performances" are quite frankly, bizarre.

I always find some of the reporters than announce the results from the different countries funny!

After an especially decent Friday the 13th yesterday, today has been a resounding flop.

My beloved football team slumped to a dismal defeat which was bad enough. Then this eurotrash nonsense, which like X Factor and all these pointless talent judging shows, it has been stretched to fill more cracks *ahem* time, in the viewing schedule. I cannot stand Blue, they were chronic ten years ago, and if ever there was a need for a hazard warning on television, this Euro circus is it:

Completely agree, however, they were much better than the drivel that the british public has jokingly (on purpose) voted to represent us in recent years.

Jedward were amazingly laughable, even more than usual which I didn't think was actually possible. Problem is, that sort of laughability is what the goons voting in the European mainland actually like, they'll probably win.

I am confident we won't finish last though, that must go to the guys with the beehives on their heads. Very strange.

Actually, 16 out of the 25 entries tonight were exclusively English which seemed to make a change, with another 6 featuring a smattering of English lyrics.

Well yes, the public knew how much of a joke it had become, knowing that anyone could represent us and it would make little difference due to political voting.

Thats when the vote to represent us was introduced and we would vote the most ridiculous option.
