Hi all,
Many thanks for taking the time to read this post.
I want to ask for advice about process for Fare Evasion.
The short story:
I took the Greater Anglia train from A to C. I bought the ticket for B to C but not A to B. When an inspector asked me to provide a ticket for the first half of the journey, I bought one straight away and then presented it. Both tickets were Anytime Day Singles. The inspector claimed this was fraud and said it would have to be reported. This is fair and the consequences of my actions.
However, they did not take my details such as address and email (I have browsed this forum to try in vain to figure out what the procedure was). I have a valid 1/3rd off 16-25 railcard which they scanned, but I am unsure if that is enough for them to be confident that it’s my latest contact details. They didn’t give me a ticket or anything physical.
I would have been more relieved if they took my email and other information verbally because now I don’t know when and how they’ll contact me. I’m unsure in case it’s because they’re going over my e-ticket purchases, which I gather would be very quick (hopefully) since I buy every ticket from the Greater Anglia website directly, and it’s also the first time I’ve done this. The inspector was not very clear about this the process, since I mostly got a stern talking to, and when they brought up reporting it, it was simply two sentences (this is a warning, you can get fined £50-£100 next time, be truthful) with no information on what I should do next.
TL;DR: Whether I am persecuted for fraud or something else, right now I would be very grateful to know if anyone can give an ETA of when and how it will come through, because the inspector did not say anything.
Once again, many thanks for reading this.
