Hi there. I'm looking to see if anyone here has any info on the dates/years that the EPS/Eurostar Class 37/6 locomotives were altered prior to being sold off to other operators. Browsing photos shows the 37/6 fleet has several alterations over the years.
I do know that they were originally refurbished for use on the cancelled Nightstar project to work with a Mk3 generator van and the special Metro Cammell coaching stock. They originally were pictured with having been fitted with RCH jumpers, the special Nightstar jumper (Also used for multiple working on class 92s) and through wired with ETH jumpers. Asides from those changes they still retained their original tail lights and the dummy receptacle of the ETH jumper was mounted straight up in a similar manner to a 37/4.
Later pictures then show the ETH jumpers were changed with the dummy socket mounted at a more horizontal angle.
Then even later pictures (taken in the 2000s) show them with having new taillights and having two large extra headlights mounted flush in the top of the nose.

I'm looking for exact dates these modifications took place and potentially why.
Additionally was there anything extra added to the cabs unique to this subclass and was the train length or Slow Speed Control equipment from when they were originally a part of the trainload freight class 37/5 pool retained or removed?

I'm a big fan of pre-2007 Eurostar operations and Nightstar as well and have recently embarked on making modifications/custom reskins for train simulator classic. I'm just looking for info so I can try and make my things as accurate as possible.
Additionally for the 37/6s that received the extra lights. Is anyone lucky enough to have captured a photograph of one at night or with the big extra headlights illuminated?

Only big difference in cab was a draught screen behind drivers seat
607- 612 offered to DRS in July 1997
602, 605 & 606 April 2002
601;603 & 604 in November 2007 when operations moved from North Pole to Temple Mills
Ex class 50 cast frame bogies fitted giving 90 mph capability

Alright. But with the cab. Can you confirm if the 37/5 SSC and TL switches were still there? Also what functions did the RCH cables perform on these since usually Nightstar comms go through the special 36 way jumper if I recall. I had the assumption that it would be something to do with remote control over the generator van or driver-guard signalling since looking at pictures of the buffered ends of the Nightstock prior to Canadian export shows that some did have an RCH jumper cable.
Thanks for the dates as for standing down of the fleet but still am curious when exactly did ES further modify the ones they kept with the revised taillights and extra headlights.
And considering that all remaining 37s and the two 73s were stood down after HS1 was complete. What does ES even use now as thunderbirds on HS1? Must be very limited as the only TVM fitted locos I can think of are class 92s and the few diesel locomotives owned by Eurotunnel that are kept by the shuttle terminals.

Nose end gubbins was 61 way night stock jumper and rch for driver guard. Comms, UIC standard ( through wired) train supply system , main res pipes also had star valves removed at pipe end And all vacuum brake equipment removed
Only the final three on the books in 2004 ( 601/3 &4) had the additional twin headlights for use on HS1 lines only which complied with group standards at the time for HS1 traction versus non HS1 from Waterloo routes.
Today a fleet of Mak locos perform the task class 21 /9 on tops here is 21 904 & 905 at St Pancras HS1.

Thanks for all the info. Although so far my TSC representation of them covers their "early" incarnation with the full 37061-37612. It's still really helpful to know all this since at some point I do also want to make the "late" variants including those HS1 lights. I also have a few other TSC projects on my plate as well, one being the barrier wagons that the 37s could be seen using to haul 373s that were converted from Mk1 GUVs.
Eventually I would actually love to model the nightstock in their full original form except that I've hit a roadblock in regards to gathering reference material. I actually was in touch with someone at Alstom (successors to MetCam) in regards to trying to find the original drawings for them. But its difficult for them since it was an old Washwood Heath design. Last email I had was that he would ask the archives if they had anything but I haven't heard anything back since. I also asked in a MetCam enthusiasts group on FB with one saying the drawings may have been given to Canada when the stock was sold off in the early 2000s.
As a stop gap though. I actually did make some modifications/reskins that turn some Mk4 coaches into approximations of the Nightstock.
