There are now 10 pages re the Kings Cross fiasco but not even a post on the fact that Paddington is completely stitched up as well and no trains can run between Paddington and Hayes and Harlington. Fortunately, the effects are not as bad as Kings Cross as the current estimate to have things moving is 13 30.
A poster did mention it in passing on the KX thread.
Network Rail bosses should be handing a chunk of their own salary back, never mind forfeit their bonus.

* Chiltern will accept FGW tickets between London Marylebone and High Wycombe, Bicester North & Banbury.
* SWT will convey FGW passengers between Waterloo and Reading / Windsor, also between Waterloo and Exeter St Davids.
* CrossCountry will convey FGW ticket holders on services west of Bristol.

Also today's tickets will be valid tomorrow.

South WCML is shut. Shuttles running from Birmingham International and Euston via the Chilterns in both directions

I don't think it's closed, but the WCML has major engineering work as well - though I believe that was scheduled to last the entire weekend.

Still surprised that they schedule two of the major London terminals to be not working to full capacity at the same time. I suppose the theory is that no-one goes anywhere at Christmas... hah .

Why and who should they give it to? Should they just stand out side the station and give you a fiver or would you prefer a cheque?

no, the theory, as you well know, is that less people go less places over Christmas. That doesn’t lessen the inconvenience for those people but it does lessen the inconvenience for people generally.

So, if not xmas or easter when shall the work be done? Have you thought that the need to appease the self important and cram more work into a short window is part of the problem?

But a reduction in capacity was. That this has now spiralled into a total closure, as you say, wasn't planned. But shouldn't we be talking about Kings Cross on the other thread

Into the Compensation chest. Take it from the bosses not from the Company itself. Of course, as in any public service industry, nobody at the top ever gets the sack.

i think they will be aware of the problem. A call from the Secretary of State for Transport wanting answers followed by every journalist in the UK will crystalise the mind i would assume.

May we agree that finding out what went wrong and why and then stopping it happenign again is the most important thing after getting people moving?

It's been a terrible year for the GWML and Network Rail, although it would take someone with expertise to explain whether this was someone's fault technically or just unrealistic expectations.

Would be interesting to know where exactly NR are actually working between Paddington and Hayes especuially as Virgin are using part of the GWML to reach Chiltern lines.

If the route to Hayes is open from Acton then its a shame FGW don't sign the route to Euston.

They may as well throw in the towel for the rest of today given the number of trains and train crew that are now out of position. I'm sure it was the same on the 27th last year as well when the works overran in the Paddington area.

According to the BBC:

Passengers have been diverted via Reading or onto the Underground via Ealing Broadway due to cancellations.

Once a passenger is diverted via Reading, where would they end up I wonder? Reading has so many destination, not all of which are Paddington. What about passengers coming from London? I guess they could be diverted onto Ealing Broadway via the underground. Waterloo is quite handy in these cases of course.

It's VERY fortunate that Acton Wells-Ealing Broadway-Greenford is OK so that the hourly VT Voyager diversions seem to be running pretty much on time today.
We must have come close to 3 main lines being shut simultaneously on the same day.

@trainophile - In terms of London terminal closures and issues there is London Bridge, which is completely closed of course to all Southern services (planned) and the southeastern side had a large number of alterations and cancellations this morning between London Bridge and Charing Cross due to point problems. What London terminals have been running ok?!

Bank credit would more convenient. I accept that all change activity comes with risk, but there needs to be accountability and leadership when things go awry.

Because the bosses are responsible for the extreme weather conditions?

Why not bill the Met Office for making the weather bad?

The late running engineering is due to the bad weather. I think the weather warnings were only given 2-3 days ago. Hardly the fault of network rail.
