[I like Class 153]

How many Class 153 single car units are in EMT?. Is it 17 or 18?.

I heard that EMT had one from Northern Rail in December 2008 is it true?

Was it in the North Western blue or Arriva Green?.

When will EMT get Class 150 units?.

If yes what routes will they run on?.

The rumour is that EMT will receive the 6 Class 150s in use with London Overground when they receive their Class 172s.

Also EMT didn't get any extra units in December 2008. All 153s were in place with EMT from the start of the franchise (November 2007) except 153310 and 153321 which transferred from Arriva Trains Wales in December 2007 and 153319 and 153357 from Northern also in December 2007.

FGW definitely needs the 150s since the overcrowding on alot of their trains is ridiculous. Last year I got on the 14:12 from Romsey to Brighton (train started at Cardiff and I got off at Southampton Central) and it was standing room only. Getting more 150s might free up 158s for the Cardiff-Portsmouth/Brighton trains.

I do hope EMT will get the Class 150 units so fingers crossed. I heard that they coming from London Overground. I heard that they could run on the Robin Hood Line and Nottingham to Matlock services in place of the Class 156 units so they run on other EMT local routes which means more Class 158 units for the Liverpool to Norwich route.

When EMT gets them, will they be repainted into EMT livery?.

Their franchise runs until 2015 so it would make sense to repaint them, along with "refreshing" them. This usually involves replacing the seat covers, repainting some of the interior panels and other minor work.

The FGW situation with overcrowding is fairly desperate.... but then again I've never used EMT local or Northern very much so can't really give a 'valued insight'

The problem is, all of these TOCs require extra stock and it is probably the case that neither is more deserving than the other.
I can only speak for EMT and say that the overcrowding that occurs on the Liverpool - Norwich route can be extreme between Liverpool and Nottingham especially. The 150s would help by displacing 156s to release 158s in turn to strengthen the Liverpool - Norwich route.
The best of the bad job would be to split the 3-car 150s with London Midland and form an extra 9 units from the intermediate driving cars then share the units out equally according to need.

150s would be helpful. Hopefully it would let Crewe - Derby get 'upgraded' to 156s. Quotation marks obviously because not so long ago it was often operated by lovely Turbostars.

We do need more trains, but we don't need any more clapped out, life expired s**t. We've got plenty of that as it is!
LM decided to replace 150's because "They are clapped out". If that is the case and it's reasonable to assume that the London units will be in a similar state, then they should go for scrap and not palmed off on another franchise.

The 150s are only about 20 years old - they've still got plenty of life in them.

If that's the case then LM and Overground (or whoever it is) should keep them!

They may be "only" 24 years old but they have been hammered into the ground, certainly the ex Central one's. They were designed to have a thirty year lifespan so they are rapidly approaching the end of it.
Time to get rid not pass on.

Or just re-engine and refurbish...Simpler option than buying an expensive new DMU...or those horrible bombardier products...

If we kept doing that then no one would ever have anything new!
Come on, we're in the 21st century, we should have a railway that reflects that, not the embarrassment we still have in the Sprinter and Pacer fleet!

They should make attractive preservation prospects, what with many of the spares being common with Leyland National buses.

If EMT get the Class 150 units I hope that they will on 07:45 service from Nottingham to Derby on Monday to friday services which calls at Beeston, Attenborough, Long Eaton, Spondon and Derby. At that time we mostly have the Class 153 unit. I get the 08:10 from Spondon to Derby. Will it be unlikely to have Class 150 at that time?.

I couldn't agree more - although I think most new build will need to go towards making up the shortfall for a while until we can afford to start replacing things.
