I have 222001 to thank for some of the following information:

Tickets are now on sale for services up to December 19. Which means that if you check the NXEC Journey Planner the full timings are available for the first 5 days of the December 2008 timetable.

Of personal benefit to me is that EMT will introduce 2 additional morning peak calls at Luton Airport Parkway, and that HSTs will also stop there for the first time in its history (thank goodness for the Thameslink platform extensions!).

I don't know which traction will be employed for the daily services to Lincoln (southbound call at 0933, northbound call at 1852) but the service to Leeds will definitely be an HST, calling at 1951. I'm also hoping the 2 morning trains from Sheffield (calling at 0739 and 0810) will be in 10-car rather than 7-car formation, seeing as they will be Meridians.

So that's the end of being able to get a convenient train to Sheffield from Luton or Bedford. Just oh dear. People don't care about journey times being cut by 5 minutes, they just want a convenient service.

aah so someone thinks what I think! Good man!

Rather odd service patterns for Lincoln-London; 4 car meridian Lincoln, Collingham, Newark castle & Nottingham. Collingham is in the middle of nowhere and surely has very little demand for a London service, whereas stations within the greather Nottingham conurbation such as Lowdham and Carlton would benifit greatley...

I think if your travelling from London to Sheffield the last thing you want is your service to be stopping at loads of intermediate stations. Do stops at luton and bedford really only cost 5 minutes? it seems an eternity! Off peak Sheffield services should be first stop Leicester and Derby in the peaks.

All that is required is one or two stops on a train in each direction.

So EMT are going reverse to what Virgin intend to do? Interesting. I think Virgin for once have it right. XCT can't get around calling at loads of stations. Am I right in thinking that the smaller stations south of York are served mainly by Leeds trains on NatEx? And that trains for Newcastle onwards generally stop at only Doncaster and Peterborough?

Disappointment for Leeds and Wakefield - down to just two a day, no doubt the HST's will still be coming up, just on ECS Moves instead..........

Only 1 Leeds - St Pancras via Doncaster, none in the opposite direction! Is this the same on Saturdays? I hope not!

I'm suprised they've axed the 0759 donny call on the leeds service, there always seemed to b a lot getting on there, and it provided useful extra capacity for commuters!

You think that's bad, the Sheffields are diagramme sharing with the Corbys.

Train does Sheffield - London - Corby - London - Sheffield.

In theory you're gonna get 5 car trains up to Sheffield just when you don't want em.

Thats not good! 5 car Meridians will simply not be enough! I thought that the 7 car Meridians were just for the Sheffield services. Unless its part of the peak services which will apparently be 2 x 5 car Meridian.

If this is true then I don't know what East Midlands Trains are playing at! We can only hope that within 6 months the HSTs will be back on the Sheffields ;).

7 car meridians aren't enough for any of the fast EMTM routes. In MML days, they were either 4 car or 9 car. 4 car ones on stoppers, 9 car on express, mixed with 8 car HSTs. Simple. I think it's a shame that 1B00 is going. But I thought they were still going to operate this service - still under the name 'The Master Cutler' - but Stagecoach obviously haven't keepen their promises...

Also just seen that Burton-on-trent and Barnsley services have been reduced to 0 per day... forever

So if the Meridian dominated Sheff-Ldn is just that, will be interesting to see where the main remainder of HSTs turn up. I expect a mixture on the express Derby/Notts routes.

Well if there are 5 car 222s to Sheffield, could always get an HST to Derby then XC to Sheffield ;)

HSTs are going on to Nottingham's routes, including the semi-fast as far as I know.
If IIRC, the main service patterns from Nottingham will be:
Express
Nottingham, Loughbrough, Leicester, St Pancras
Semi-fast
(Lincoln), (Collingham), (Newark Castle), Nottingham, Beeston, Loughbrough, Leicester, Market Haghbrough, Kettering, Wellingbrough, Bedford, Luton OR Luton Airport Parkway, St Pancras.
If they are continuing current trends, semi-fast ones from Derby stop at Luton Airport Parkway, and ones from Nottingham stop at Luton.

That would definitely be a chapter in the HST history books, they are now being seen as the slow alternative and put on the semi fast services, would surely mean for overall slower timings than previously due to accelleration, also the fact that many of the semi fast stations have short platforms.

Thats a ot of stops on that Lincoln - St Pancras service. Surely it would make more sence to have run non stop Leicester to St Pancras.
Stations south of Leicester can be served by Derby / Nottingham - St Pancras trains.

Will that train from Sheffield - London via Nottingham still run ?

Do EMT trains serve York ?

Will they still go to Scarborough ?

Someone please explain i don't know EMT services very well. I gave up trying to understand them a while ago when the meridiens split into all differant lenghts.

Well, according to Stagecoach we do <(<(<(
I totally agree with you. Passengers care about 3 things.
1) Comfort
2) They can get a seat
3) if the train goes from A to B

I've not met anybody whos gone to me "Hey from next year, my trains getting into A 5 minutes quicker!!"
Mus be Stagecoach putting to much Bus influence into it.

BRING BACK MIDLAND MAINLINE!!!

Would it make that much difference? As I thought that HSTs could run on Meridian routes without no loss of time. There are a lot of short platforms though. Also I dont think there are enough HSTs for them to do the fast and semi-fast.

EMT will operate London to Sheffield (fast), to Derby (fast), to Nottingham (fast), to Nottingham (semi-fast), to Corby (semi-fast).

1) The aim is for all of the Derby services to London to be fast services making only a few stops
2) Yes Sheffield - London via Nottingham will still run but they will be part of the Leeds services with the 06:34 from Leeds southbound and 18:15 and 19:30 to Leeds northbound
3) Yes EMT will still serve York at weekends. Scarborough will probably still be included but we will have to wait to the summer timetable to find out.

222001 - thanks for clearing that up for me.

Seems to me that would make sence to have Sheffiled limited stop as its a longer distance. The Derby service should remain local stopper as its only a short distance. EMT may live to regret this decision.

Wouldn't expect National Express East Coast to run Glassgow service calling all stations to Doncastler and have London - Leeds services non stop.

Maybe there is a logical explainion to EMT decision but i carn't see one. However i never really travelled on that route much and don't know much about it so maybe EMT is right to do this.

reading on from the link above, I see that they are replacing Meridians on the quicker SHF-STP service as they have "quicker acceleration" if I was EMT I would use the Meridians on the new faster service to save delays leavving the station.
Whos sick of EMT yet?

I thought the idea was to run 10car (2x5) 222 to Sheffield, but only 5 car to Corby, thus allowing better utilisation of capacity, so higher capacity on the busier midlands routes, and not carrying as much empty carriages to Corby.... Could be worse -- you could still have 3car 170's on that route!
