The EMT power cars are alone in having Paxman VP185 power units.I'm more used to seeing an EMT set with EC logos, but I thought that all 43s have been rebuilt with MTU engines.
No they dont have to maintain different knowledge, East Coast drivers will have been issued with a brief (document) highlighting the differences. Running gear is the same across the fleet but there are differences with brakes/parking brakes stuff.

It doesn't, and it didn't when you made this post (the article's not been edited in 4 days).
There's a detailed TOC by TOC description of the engine situation, and in the infobox at the top of the article next to "Prime Mover" it clearly states "Paxman 12VP185 or MTU 16V4000 R41R".
