Is there a film that could be applied to 360s to reduce the need for them to be taken out of service, or would it need the actual windscreens replacing with a stronger shape?

Could this be a function of running at 110mph? Given the energy at impact is a function of the square of velocity, maybe the windscreen is now beyond its original design parameters?
That would have come up when they were being upgraded as part of the long list of checks. And if it wasn't, trains are designed for overspeeding anyway so the tolerances in the windscreens would likely have been designed for 110mph anyway.
Looks like an EMR 360 wanted to visit St Albans City this morning. The 08:14 departure from St Pancras has been sat at Platform 4 since about 08:50 with a fault of some sort.
It lead to the very rare scenario of an EMR Intercity Meridian stopping at platform 2 at about 09:00 to pick up some of the passengers

5Z11 has just arrived on the London end to rescue it.
Caused (and still causing as I type this) absolute chaos… A pity when they’re becoming steadily more reliable.

5 of the 6 trains were 8 car today with peak services now well loaded.
There was also a rogue 4 car unit working services. It was packed and very unpleasant to travel in.
The repaint hasn't improved the condition of the interior nor has it improved operational reliability given today out of 21 units, only 11 were in traffic.
12 car working is needed in the peaks and is promised from December timetable change. Let's see whether EMR live up to their promises for once.
it would be nice to think in the 18 mo since eMML go live up to 12/2022, all those units not running were being worked on so that from Day One of the new timetable are in such good order that EMR 18 daily get 18 in traffic and 3 spare / exams.
PS Typed while I am in the departure gate waiting to board the next flight back to Mars.

Just seen 360112 run ECS through Wellingborough Station on the Up Slow (Platform 4, headed south).
Any idea what this is about, where it is headed to? It can't be going to St Pancras to pick up passengers as the 07:56 departed Platform 4 as normal, as an 8 car service.

Light maintenance and stabling is done at Cricklewood, 111’s already been repainted.

12 at Eastleigh is the final one in the programme for repaint, all the others have been completed.
Light maintenance is done at Cauldwell (Bedford), stabling at Cricklewood.

What is going on with the reliability of these 360 trains... I saw another rogue 4 car unit arrive into Wellingborough today at approx 2:40pm.

On Tuesday, 2 of the 6 diagrams were 4-car. From Wednesday, 1 of the 6 diagrams has been 4-car. So a maximum of 11 units in service. Given EMR have a fleet of 21 units, why are 10 out of service for so long?. Reliability of just over 50% is appalling. Where are
EMR should be ashamed at the woeful service provision on EMR Connect.

Monday will see another day of short forms. 2 of the 6 diagrams are planned as 4-car units. That's 10 units from a fleet of 21 in service. Less than 50%.

I don't know, but on a related note I heard that today, a train had got stuck between Kettering and Corby. I can only presume it was a 360 because there were multiple canceled services, and those that were running only went as far as Kettering.

It amazes me how unreliable they are, considering the rest of the Desiros are some of, if not the most reliable trains on the whole network, being very well built. I think maintenance has a serious role to play, and I think it is thanks to operators like SWT/SWR with purpose built facilities run by Siemens like Northam that they achieve such good results. EMR is out of my knowledge and experience, but it makes me wonder what an earth has gone wrong with their maintenance for the reliability to have got this bad. IIRC they were not treated the best by GA in their final years there, but it still doesn't explain how EMR still haven't gotten to grips with the 360s, especially considering how solidly built they are.

Whilst EMR were dealt a duff hand from the beginning in terms of the condition of the 360s when they arrived, full maintenance facilities not being easily accessible from the MML is a hurdle.
I think a lesson here is that you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, these trains were taken on at cheap leasing rates (compared to, for example, the 379s), hence factors like their condition and unfavourable maintenance arrangements are consequences that the TOC and its passengers have to contend with.
Now that they have been cycled through Eastleigh, surely there are no further excuses to delay the long-awaited interior refurbishment (or at least that’s what it’ll be called… probably end up being a very minor refresh at absolute best!).

Most if the 360s stable overnight at Kettering or London where general cleaning and servicing can be done but very little maintenance.
I think this lack of a dedicated depot that the trains return to each night or at the least every few night's has a big impact on reliability. It may so be a factor that as neither depot is owned by EMR / is primarily dedicated to their services, perhaps their trains take a lower priority compared to the 'home' TOC?
It also doesn't help that EMR appears to be be poorly managed and unwilling to invest in the service. Standards have gone down across all the routes.
Its a shame Kettering did not have a depor built instead of just stabling sidings.
