I don’t think they will inevitably be replaced in two/three years time.
These repairs will extend their life for 10 to 20 years. When the 2030 Government ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars comes in there will still be 1980s vintage 156 units on the railway….

I wouldn't say its inevitable because of the long term desire to shrink the fleet.

They should hopefully be left with more than enough 158s and 170s once remaining 16 Class 170s have transferred from WMR. I think any increase in the regional fleet from that will come about as a result of MML electrification i.e. electric Ivanhoe line services and maybe battery trains on the Matlock services.

There should be plenty of stock to cover Liverpool - Norwich as we have all the 158s being retained, and also the 170s that were going to cover the Nottingham - Norwich portion once the route was split.

Good to here that EMR will have a surplus in their regional fleet - They should be able to resource extras for events such as the races at Uttoxeter and Aintree and the Lincoln Christmas markets.

156419 didn't leave today as 5N31. However there is a path tomorrow to from Etches Park to Heaton T&R.S.M.D. as 5Z12 so that might be it.

This is moving now, can someone confirm if it's 156419 ethier solo or coupled together with another unit?

Apologies for the error on the website. I actually had it down as having moved a long time ago, no idea where I got that from but clearly heard it somewhere. 419 was also incorrect as I thought this had gone straight to Northern from Wolverton ages ago when it clearly hadn't. Both are now updated to be (hopefully) correct!

Note that 156419 went to HT, as opposed to NH (as first scheduled) and looking at 156 workings this week, there seem to be plenty NH 156's out on the Cumbrian Coast (normally HT). Is this because of the Carlisle-Newcastle line closure or have some been reallocated form NH to HT?

I did get 156410 for haulage on Tuesday between Carlton and Nottingham (swapped to 156405 to carry on to Derby), which was on the Crewe - Newark Castle. It was also on the Crewe - Newark Castle all day Monday, overnighting in Crewe.

No, there's a small number of 156 diagrams mostly on Skegness services on top of Barton. I think they do one of the Matlock diagrams too.

No, DfT have told Northern they have to extend the sub-lease, in the same way that EMR have had to extend the 170 sub-lease back to WMT.

Same source tells me that 405/6/8/10/11 staying with EMR until May 23, then going back to leasing company.
