But would building more 195s cost more than repairing the 156s and then ordering a replacement fleet for them in two/three years time as is inevitably going to happen anyway?
I don’t think they will inevitably be replaced in two/three years time.
These repairs will extend their life for 10 to 20 years. When the 2030 Government ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars comes in there will still be 1980s vintage 156 units on the railway….

No way will these repairs last 20 years. Not a chance.

10 years maybe, but there will still be interim work to rectify localised issues.

I wouldn't say its inevitable because of the long term desire to shrink the fleet.

They should hopefully be left with more than enough 158s and 170s once remaining 16 Class 170s have transferred from WMR. I think any increase in the regional fleet from that will come about as a result of MML electrification i.e. electric Ivanhoe line services and maybe battery trains on the Matlock services.
There should be plenty of stock to cover Liverpool - Norwich as we have all the 158s being retained, and also the 170s that were going to cover the Nottingham - Norwich portion once the route was split.

Good to here that EMR will have a surplus in their regional fleet - They should be able to resource extras for events such as the races at Uttoxeter and Aintree and the Lincoln Christmas markets.

156419 didn't leave today as 5N31. However there is a path tomorrow to from Etches Park to Heaton T&R.S.M.D. as 5Z12 so that might be it.

This is moving now, can someone confirm if it's 156419 ethier solo or coupled together with another unit?

According to Raillog 156408 is at Northern now.
Apologies for the error on the website. I actually had it down as having moved a long time ago, no idea where I got that from but clearly heard it somewhere. 419 was also incorrect as I thought this had gone straight to Northern from Wolverton ages ago when it clearly hadn't. Both are now updated to be (hopefully) correct!

If anyone ever spots an error on the site, please drop me a PM on here so I can correct it. If I don't know of it, I can't change it and as I am just an enthusiast the same as most (with no access to internal systems and with a non-railway related full time job to pay the bills) I am literally relying on the goodwill of others to update me in the same way folk used to do for Abrail before it disappeared! Helpful messages like the one from @LowLevel below are the sort I am looking for :)
It isn't. At this very moment it is parked up at Lincoln Central.

Unhelpful digs like this one below can be filed neatly in the bin though :D
Well Raillog is wrong then, isn’t it!

Apologies to admin for going a bit OT, but felt I should respond as I don't want people thinking I am trying in any way to provide false information!

Note that 156419 went to HT, as opposed to NH (as first scheduled) and looking at 156 workings this week, there seem to be plenty NH 156's out on the Cumbrian Coast (normally HT). Is this because of the Carlisle-Newcastle line closure or have some been reallocated form NH to HT?

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I did get 156410 for haulage on Tuesday between Carlton and Nottingham (swapped to 156405 to carry on to Derby), which was on the Crewe - Newark Castle. It was also on the Crewe - Newark Castle all day Monday, overnighting in Crewe.

Does is December TT change planned around purely 158s and 170s? There shouldn’t be 156s in 2023, so I thought?

156498 has turned up back at Etches Park.
Being prepped for storage apparently

5 being kept until May 2023. Some more should go to Northern when more 170s enter service

No, there's a small number of 156 diagrams mostly on Skegness services on top of Barton. I think they do one of the Matlock diagrams too.

Strangely the DfT has just uploaded (today, 8th December) the updated Northern contract and on page 147

22 (11 x 2 car) class 156 introduced 4th December 2022 ex East Midlands **
** The rolling stock identified is currently sub-leased by the Operator to East Midlands Railway Limited. The date in Column 5 indicate the Scheduled Redelivery Date as currently defined in the sub-lease arrangements dated 15 December 2020.

so if Northern are already sub leasing to East Midlands, then EM have presumably grovelled to borrow them longer

No, DfT have told Northern they have to extend the sub-lease, in the same way that EMR have had to extend the 170 sub-lease back to WMT.

11 x 2 Car doesn’t make sense.

On the books already there are 9. Sources tell me that Northern can expect another 6.

Same source tells me that 405/6/8/10/11 staying with EMR until May 23, then going back to leasing company.

Only 150003 to 150006 are moving, last I heard internally, with 1 and 2 staying at Newton Heath.
150002 is now at Neville Hill.

Worth noting that 150001 and 150006 were stabled at Sheffield last night, I’m guessing on their way to NL as well

Still a few 156's knocking around. 156917 and 403 noted on Eastcroft today. 907 was on Matlock services and 411 is on Lincoln services.

As mentioned earlier in the thread - 470,473,497,498 have appeared on Etches Park.

413 was on Crewe-Newark Castle today as well (strange as none of those services are 156 diagrams).
The 4 Angel Trains ones are being prepped for storage at the end of the year.
