What date is the proposed first tram running to Leith ?

I read somewhere it was going to be spring 2023, but that's a little vague
The council are aiming to have it open by June 21, so hopefully that date at the latest. Once testing is complete, which will be starting soon, I imagine they'll announce a concrete date.

I think it would be quite cool if it opened on the same day as the original line did, on 30th May. That being said it is a Tuesday and these things typically open at the weekend.

An online news source (Edinburgh Live) is reporting that ghost trams will start next Monday.

And it's off! Miserable weather though.

Apparently the tram used is spending the day outside Ocean Terminal before resuming its line and signal testing tonight.

update 18th:

Presumably these are for issues identified during this week's trials.

Video of the 1st night of testing along Leith Walk. The first tram in Leith for 67 years.

Full speed daytime testing now underway: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/tramst...s-first-daytime-testing-for-trams-to-newhaven

Sounds like things are going well. Hopefully we get a slightly earlier date than 21/06.
Great news! Hope to be back in Auld Reekie soon to get my tram-fix down The Walk to Newhaven! There's a good 6 minute video on YouTube of trams on the new extension with route learning and driver testing. posted on 19. April 2023.

As a thought, does anyone know the tram PVR for the new extension?

A short video of tram testing on Leith Walk

There's something I can't put my finger on with these tests, but is it me or do the trams sound a little more noisier than before? I don't recall them being that noisy along the 'current' stretch of on street running.

A number of the fleet have had new traction motors fitted. The louder ones are the new ones.

Interesting, thanks! I did wonder if it had something to do with new Traction Motors, then again freshly ground rails (unlikely in this case) can make similar sort of noises.

The details of first/last trams are now online. Surprised the last tram is just an extension of the current one.

So still no tram for the late evening arrivals (I was expecting to arrive at 2240 last Friday but missed the connection.)
