After weighing all the advice (for which she thanks everyone), Mrs O went for the 17:03. Se reported that the Cross was being well handled, with little sign of the chaos one might expect. The train had no hot food because the chef was stuck on an incoming, but, being prewarned, she had stocked up on the station. The announcements on the train were a tad vague - "because of what has happened at Grantham" - and Grantham passengers were a little alarmed, thinking there had been a major incident at their town. But, again, Mrs O could fill them in. They were a little miffed to be told after Peterborough that they were being held in a queue only to have other trains go past on the fast, but operational requirements probably demanded that. Apparently, when they reached Grantham, passengers were told that, to get past the site of the incident, they had had to lower the pantograph, operate on emergency power, and coast past. Any details on that procedure? Arrived in Leeds exactly one hour late (having been stuck behind the inevitable slow train round Wakefield).
Does anyone know the reporting number of the train (the 1Dnn thingy) so she can bung in a compensation claim (though they were not handed out on the train, nor the number announced, which is usually the case)
Again, Mrs O would like to thank everyone for the assistance
