Another day on the ECML......
I guess it's not 'that' bad in comparison, all the wires into KX could have come down...
In some ways it was lucky. The location has mostly headspans, and more or less anywhere else (a few hundred metres either way) and it would have been all tracks closed. You don't often get to run past a location where the wires (and the train pantographs) are visibly damaged, but your line is still live.
It certainly could have been worse, my train 2T93 (the 07:20 Cambridge North to King's Cross) arrived 53 late. Interestingly, we got to overtake a few trains including 1T11 0651 Kings Lynn to London Kings Cross by using the Up Slow 2. They ended up 12 minutes later than 2T93, despite passing Welwyn Garden City 5 minutes before I got on 2T93. King's Cross was also having to handle the trains that had been en-route for Moorgate and the Down Slow north of Copenhagen Tunnel appeared to be part of the isolated area at one point with one of the Class 700s stranded on its return to Hornsey. The turnback sidings at Ferme Park for trains to reverse over the flyover appeared to be affected as well causing problems stabling the trains booked to go to depot after their peak working. While 2V16 is still stuck at Hornsey station on Down Slow 2, as of 11:32 according to the OpenTrainTimes map, these other sections of track at least appear to have returned to use...
Great pictures jellybaby. I think the cause of the problem may have been the pantograph on the rear 313 de-wiring. This was tangled up in the OLE. You can make out that it has not dropped like that on the leading unit in the second picture. From trains running past you run past it can be seen to be damaged and at a unusual angle...
