I'm struggling to visualise 500 people at Spalding to be quite honest! It isn't an absolute shack but they must be spilling out of the station. I hope the BTP get there swiftly as crowd control is going to be very important for everyone's safety. There appear to be six trains in the vicinity that could help move people (though three are GC and a fourth is HT) but it's going to need some sort of control to manage it!
Apparently the driver on 1E13 is refusing to stop for that very reason.

It struggles on a Saturday when a 2-car 153 turfs out a few passengers... o_O

So God knows how it's doing on a bleak, cold Sunday night with NOTHING open in the area!!!:smile:

1A94 appears to have passed Spalding non-stop as well
Report full and standing throughout before it got anywhere near Spalding. So calling that one would seem incredibly unwise.

Will there be any staff working ? Or just BTP?

No Sunday service at Spalding so it's unstaffed. Even Mondays to Saturdays it's not staffed after around 1500.

Can understand train crew on subsequent services declining to stop, sounds like there would be a potential nightmare of 500 pax trying to cram onto already full trains.

I'm on 1A96 and I didn't even know about this disruption - nothing announced by the guard yet. Hopefully we won't be delayed too much!

What are VTEC going to do? All the southbounds are bound to very busy anyway due to various other issues today. Taxis are out of the question as the local firms are too small. The station is hardly suitable for Intercity trains to stop at the beat of times, the BTP presence is unknown and they have 500+ stuck on a platform..

Services seem to be flowing smoothly through Spalding again. It's just a question of rescuing the passengers dumped at Spalding!

With the greatest of respect, drivers do not just refuse to stop - that would be a disciplinary issue. Stop/not stop is decided by control.

Well I wonder how it's looking now. A couple of GCs have stopped at Spalding! There's a VTEC from Leeds approaching (1A43) though I'd gamble that will already be very busy as it's only the fourth direct service from Leeds today and the last one at that!

With respect train crew CAN and do refuse stop orders if there are valid reasons. As has happened in this case.

Well it would appear 1A61, 1A70 (both GC from Sunderland and Bradford respectively) and 1A43 (VTEC from Leeds) have all called.

Just 1A43 it appears has called.

So with this in mind, if the station has no Sunday service, would it even be unlocked for people to leave if it over crowds? Sorry if this is a silly question, but some stations are locked out of use when closed.

Yes, it will be open. The building will be locked but the alternative entrance is an opening in the platform fence so people can get off the platform.

Excellent, just when I thought there was serious hope of getting home at a decent time tonight...

But that is not just an arbitrary decision, it will be done in consultation with control. And it certainly isn't the driver's decision alone, the guard (or whatever they are called this week) knows far more about conditions on board than the FESW. Unless it is DOO - which VTEC isn't.

What a clustermug...

It must be awful being stuck at Spalding in low temperatures.
