Just don't get the seat allocation algorithm - just checked in for a BHX -EDI Flight on Friday "not piggyed" - 17D

Only cost £18 so thought I would be a prime target for piggification

Not really more a BA Man , just use Easyjet for BHX and SOU flights.

Will be interesting to see what my rare Ryanair excursion from Edinburgh to Dublin next month (Daytrip) will produce in terms of seat bingo.

Ah the Ryanair day trips to Dublin are so good from EMA.. I know they have their own thread on here but 3rd November is the day they go paperless for boarding passes.

easyjet have no plans to go paperless As for not possessing a smartphone, it's a very good question. They have come up with all the answers for people that lose them while away but I've read nothing to help people such as yourself who will not be getting away with them in the first place for that to happen.

It probably doesn't help, but I think you can also download the Ryanair app on a tablet or Kindle if you have one (though in the latter you have to "jailbreak" first).

This ticket/app business, if you turn up without your phone (maybe it's been lost or stolen) all your details are on the app stored remotely, so if you can access the app on someone else's phone, log in with your details, your ticket should be there? If sent to e-mail that muddies things but I think tickets are always available on the app anyway?

The way the app handles tickets is weird and clunky - even if you already checked in online you have to check in again to get the ticket in the app. I'm not sure if it is then being stored on the servers or just locally on your phone.

I'm flying with them tomorrow, just checked to see where my ticket is and it's in my google wallet; also got a screenshot of it just in case the internet's down (does that matter??). I agree, the easyjet site isn't the easiest to navigate!

Good point, once it's in Google Wallet you should be able to get at it on any device you're willing to log into Google on. I'm just irritated that Easyet are the only carrier I use where you seem to have to install the app to get a mobile boarding pass. Everybody else just lets you do it off the mobile web site.

I made it 38 mins.

All the good work was undone at EDI where first the guidance system wasn't on and then we were dumped at Gate 27 waiting for ground staff to tape off the passage for the busses to the terminal.

Only saving grace being deposited at Gate 17 very near to the Airport Exit.

Well done EasyJet raspberries to Swissport or whoever their handling agent is.

Just a footnote Security at BHX was empty when I went through at just after 2000.

Nearly missed my flight from BHX to EDI this afternoon.

Took about an hour to get through security- Final Call when I got to the Gate.

Normally pay for Fast Track if not travelling BA, but I didn't think it would be busy at Lunchtime !!

These secondary checks where your hand luggage diverts to the "naughty lane" are a pain in the ass.

The seats aren't narrower, just set much closer to the fuselage wall which in turn allows a wider aisle. I find them uncomfortable but Ok for a domestic hop.

The A319 and A320 have different seats. The A319s generally seem to still have the older thicker seats, and not only are they set closer to the fuselage wall, there's also a lot less legroom. I notice it on the A319 that headroom in particular is bad because of the curve of the fuselage, but I am tall.

The A320s all have the slimline seats and are more comfortable.

They are still receiving new A320neo and A321neo from a 2013 order, and at end of 2023 was confirmed 35 will be switched from A320neo to bigger A321neo

Subsequently another 157 planes (56 A320neo & 101 A321neo) have been ordered for delivery 2029-2033, with options for 100 extra planes.

So gradually upsizing the fleet
A319 have 156 seats
A320 have 180 or 186 seats
A320neo have 186 seats
A321neo have 235 seats

Having been on a sold out and full A321neo on a flight to Tenerife that got delayed by headwinds, and was about 5.5 hours onboard, they are cramped, and suffer from a semi-permanent queue in aisles at front and back for the limited toilets. They are too high density for longer flights.

I only seem to get the A319s on domestic runs from EDI/GLA now. Flew once on EZY 321, pretty rare in these parts.

Yes. I was on one of the Jet2 A321neos back from Lanzarote a couple of years ago and, even with an exit row, I’d have climbed over my own children to be off that thing first.

The Ryanair Service I went to Dublin and back from Edinburgh wasn't much better last week and that's only 40 minutes.

Loganair. They’re cheaper if you book directly with Loganair. Unless you desperately need the BA tier points you may as well book with Loganair, as they fly from T2 or City there’s no OneWorld lounge at either. You get Avios with Loganair now.

Actually Loganair are a good way of getting good value from Avios now. A single redemption flight is 6,500 Avios + airport fees + tax, regardless of how much the fare would be. 13,000 Avios saved me about £250 on a recent return to London.

You do need to check what the cash fare would be first. The cash fare is fare + fees (airport fees, tax, fuel surcharge, greenskies surcharge); the Avios just replaces the fare element. So you can get very good value on a Loganair redemption (in my case the fare element was about £125 each way, plus the fees of about £50 each way). But you can also get very poor value if you're not careful (on some quiet Manchester flights from here the fare element might only be £10-£20).

I'm on exclusively Edinburgh-Exeter flights, where the fare element is almost never under £100, but good point.

I'm realising with some of my Norwegian flights that actual cheap economy flights are a hopeless way of accumulating points, albeit that they redeem the points as a pretty transparent cash discount.
