GLA-SOU is a great route and allows me to visit family on the south coast far more easily than any of the alternatives. I've not yet tried Loganair south from Scotland but in general their fares seem prohibitively expensive compared to EasyJet.

There’s also Bournemouth - Edinburgh on Ryanair which can be very cheap although the public transport offering at Bournemouth Airport is non-existent compared to Southampton.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

Having Parkway station right across the road from the terminal is a massive win. Minimal faff and I can get to where I need to be further down the SWML very quickly indeed.

Hurn really does suffer from its location, though I see it's pretty cheap to fly from.

I wish they would operate from Edinburgh to Southampton in addition to Glasgow.

My £54 return was not atypical just the cheapest combination I could find

It really is a great way to travel between Scotland and Southampton -less than an hour in the air.
Yes, I use the Saturday morning flight from GLA to SOU now and then. Gets you down on the South Coast early. I have also used the Sunday SOU to GLA, this service gets you up the road but is often dearer.

Yes, you can be on the train in 5 minutes and at Southampton Central 20 minutes after landing if you time it well. I have flown from Bournemouth and have ad to get taxi as the bus service does not run at the weekend.

Trip from Edinburgh to Birmingham Out Friday and back Saturday.

Bit the bullet and paid £6.99 each way for Seat 31C right at the back.

On the way down no "piggy in the middle" and of course off quickly (Front/Back Steps) - unusually onto a Bus - but it was well organised with one for the front and one for the rear separated. 45 Minutes flying time.

On the way back rear 3 or 4 rows were virtually empty apart from mine which had A,B and C occupied - I was able to move to 30 CDE which I had to myself. Invested in a Costa Coffee which at £3.95 makes BA look cheap. Had it along with items raided from Avanti Lounge on the outward leg. Again 45mins Flying Time.

So if you are going to pay for a seat the back row seems preferable on a short journey as you get off quickly and it's in the cheapest band. Of course they might always shaft your plans by using a Bus on arrival. Handy for the toilet as well and plenty of room to lob your rucksack in the overhead bins.

The early flight from Edinburgh was a bus to the terminal last time I got it as well. I imagine some of the gates just don't have access to the domestic arrivals. In terms of placement, it's so much quicker to clear the plane through two entrances now the hang baggage charges are in place, so I've never felt really inconvenienced by being in the middle.

Seems to be two domestic arrival areas in Birmingham, last time we arrived it was at the newish pier at west end.

They were rumoured 12 months ago to be starting a few flights out of EMA. This has sadly not happened, i heard it from a friend in the industry so got my hopes up.
I think this may still be a strong rumour. Someone elsewhere who usually has his finger on the pulse had alluded to easyjet looking at starting routes from a U.K. airport that it doesn’t currently serve. EMA is the last big regional airport without any easyJet presence after they pulled the base there back in the 2000’s.

At least the return flight found us ejected via one of the middle gates in Edinburgh avoiding the 10 mile walk to the Exit if you arrived at one of the single digit ones.

Domestic arrivals in Edinburgh is just ‘walk out through the departure lounge’ so there’s no gates that can’t access it. They tend to bus for any non-jetbridge stand though even if it’s right next to the terminal.

That's true at Edinburgh, but where it's just the later-arriving Loganair flights where I seem to get bussed. It doesn't seem to be true of Birmingham though

Sorry I misread the post! Yes Birmingham only have about half their gates with direct domestic arrivals access IIRC.

All my recent EasyJet Edinburgh experiences, and these have been numerous. Have seen me at high numbered gates 24 plus, a nightmare both for departure and arrival, it's a long walk and the two moving walkways are always running in the outbound direction, assuming they are running at all. It really makes you consider what you're doing when choosing traveller modes for short hop domestic in particular, although until train prices come down and seat quality on lner goes up, EasyJet will still win and I am trying to lose a bit of weight so I shouldn't really complain LOL.

Restarted.

I flew EZY from EMA (and back) in 2003.

I use the weekend Saturday morning and Sunday evening return service from Edinburgh to there back in 2004 for my grandfather's 90th birthday. We had a wonderful weekend and the flight made it so straightforward

EMA does not even have flights to Scotland anymore. I don't think its one for EZY though.

Easyjet Bingo completed for trip from Glasgow to Birmingham out tomorrow and back Thursday - 30D out and 24F in no "piggy"

£35 Return - Train with Railcard could barely cover the cost One Way.

I love these early morning flights between regional Airports without involving Heathrow. First departures are rarely delayed (tempting fate) with a flying time of around 45-55 Minutes.

Yes, the first departures are usually out on time. Only one I got delayed with, was AF from EDI. The evening Easyjet flights heading south, I have seen them delayed from EDI/GLA.

Easyjet to BHX is handy but wish there was more flights!

Seems paying for seats with these low cost carriers is a rarity on here. Nothing wrong with that of course as it keeps the cost down but ive always paid the extra £12 - £18 to sit where i want to sit and importantly for me is knowing where they are using an air bridge as it can put an hour plus on the time of clearing immigration abroad. Probably doesn't apply to Ryanair as they rarely use them because of charges but easyjet certainly do.

As alluded to upthread we could really do with an EDI-SOU service to complement the GLA offering.

Loganair have got a 17% off Sale on at the moment but I know without looking the fares on the above route will still be extortionate.

The use of the air bridge is random.
I've been to places like Nice and Stuttgart where there is an Air bridge but used stairs.
Nice was an air bridge on the return journey

I've never had more than 15-20 minutes in immigration, it's the same as before just with a stamp

Luckily that is not a consideration (yet !!) on UK Domestic Services :E

It's getting to immigration in the first place that can add time to the whole process of actually clearing it. BER with the airbrige at T1 with no disembarking from the rear with easyjet or no airbrige at the dreadful T2 with Ryanair but you are off from front and rear.

Depends a lot on where you're going. At smaller airports there are often only one or two gates open for non-EU passengers. In some countries they also tend to ask about return flights, onward travel plans and accommodation. The performance of computer systems can also sometimes be pretty poor. It's quick enough once you are at the desk, but if you end up behind the other 160 people on your flight then 30 seconds a passenger can still mount up to a 40 minute wait time.

While Paris, Copenhagen, Vienna and others have been fine, I've only once made it through Oslo immigration in less than 40 minutes even though I'm often very quick off the plane, and Gothenburg was 25 minutes even though I was near the front. It's even taken me 45 minutes to get out of Poland before.

I don't book seats because there are too many factors like the presence or absence of back steps, and the number of flights which end in a bus journey. That said, I'm physically able to stand for an hour I'm unlucky, which certainly isn't true of everyone.

I‘ve been 60-90 mins at Geneva immigration for three trips running (first flight off Luton too, and one of the early arrivals at GVA). Swiss efficiency. Returning to Luton at 2200, behind 5 planes mostly from eastern europe, and never had to wait more than 10 mins.

Depends on the low cost carrier.

EasyJet generally keep groups together, so I will only pay if I am travelling alone and it is a flight of at least one hour. Because they keep groups together it also minimises the risk of the middle seat: a couple will usually be given the middle and either the aisle or the window. When I've been given the middle seat I've been between two other solo travellers. EasyJet also won't let you change your seat once you've checked in, so there's no incentive for them to keep aisles/windows free for paying customers.

Ryanair will let you pay to change your seat after check-in, so they do have the incentive to keep the window and aisle seats free. They also don't keep groups together so that's why you're much more likely to be "randomly" allocated a middle seat.

I've never had more than 15-20 minutes in immigration, it's the same as before just with a stamp
Depends a lot on where you're going.
I've just got back from Ibiza, with only two desks was still through in under 15 minutes. And I was basically the 106th person to get off the Embraer 190. It seems to very much depend on the airport and how pedantic the passport control staff are; in most of Spain it's a brief glance and a stamp, but the Germans love to investigate everything, especially at Berlin.

I generally travel with hold luggage so the queue to get off the plane doesn't normally bother me. I can either stand in the immigration queue or I can stand by the baggage carousel waiting for my suitcase.

I wish Easyjet would get their act together on whether you have to show photo ID with no hold luggage on UK Domestic Flights.

On my outward leg GLA to BHX they didn't ask for any but on the return leg Birmingham did.

Incidentally glad I used the money saved from not paying for a seat for Fast Track Security at BHX this morning - regular queue was horrific !!

EasyJet policy is you must have photo ID on domestic flights.

Photographic ID is required on all domestic flights.

Children under the age of 16 do not need to show ID on domestic flights (excluding Italy). The adult they are travelling with can vouch for the infant's/child's identity.

Children under 14 on Italian domestic flight must show photographic ID.

In practice some gate staff only check ID where a bag has been checked in, and that seems to depend on the individual staff as much as the airport. I've had some flights at Liverpool where it has been checked and some where it hasn't.

Interesting. They've been quite explicit on the last few flights I've been on that ID was only required for checked bags. I thought they'd changed the website to reflect that, although I could be misremembering.

Last few domestic flights on EZY from GLA I have not been asked for ID. BA was another that never asked for ID.

Just don't get the seat allocation algorithm - just checked in for a BHX -EDI Flight on Friday "not piggyed" - 17D

Only cost £18 so thought I would be a prime target for piggification :?:
