I heard that EMT will be getting some Class 150 units from London Midland.

How many will they get?

What routes will they operate on?

When will they be operating?

Word is that EMT have been allocated 6, although they would prefer to swap them with Northern for 156s.

EMT have openly admitted that they have too many 90mph 158s for the routes they are used on, these being more suited for 75mph 150/156 which is wy they want 150's to displace some 158's over to Northern and possibly FGW.

They do have a pretty decent fleet. Although I think the 158s are waaay too small for the routes they run (Liverpool-Norwich!) its gets very crowded!

I've never heard that they have too many 158s. What has been said is that the 158s which currently frequent 'Route 3' local services could be much better used on the 'Route 2' former Citylink services, if only there were stock to displace them.

They don't want 150s at all - they want more capacity full stop. It doesn't make much sense for them to take on 6 150s - their staff wont have signed them since the Central split, and similarly Eastcroft's maintenance staff will need retraining - then you've got economies of scale to think about with parts and stuff.

As it stands, the only stock availability on the horizon is the 150s. East Midlands Trains could benefit by obtaining the 150s not already ring-fenced for Northern and First Great Western, and then negotiating for them to be swapped with Northern for 156s. This could be seen as mutually beneficial, as Northern need capacity and 150s have more seats than 156s thanks to their 3 + 2 seating arrangement.

Not really - A 156 is longer and does not have separate crew doors.

A 156 has 150 seats, Angel Trains quote between 124 and 138 seats for a 150/1.

Of course 150s are better for standing in the doorways, but that is about it, as a 156 has a large standing area at either end - opposite the toilet area and in the parcels area.

WH Smith there fleet for DMUs is in the 2009 DMU Fleet Inc Class 222 units Book as will there Class 43 Locomtives will be in the Locomotive Fleet Book for same year you may get the books cheaper no its 2010.

If you whnat the DMU list I can photo copy it for you and post it to you free of charge if you contact me by PM.

150s to NXEA wouldn't make much sense - they dont presently have any either. I don't see how it would be beneficial to them?

153s to FGW? First I've heard of that. Seems very unlikely seeing as EMT are repainting all their 153s presently. Why would they bother if they're going to be transferred away?

In genral I don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing in the DfT but it is not about choice it is about needs.

As for EMT Painting all there 153 units that means nothing to the DfT as didn't Stagcoach release two 158 units form SWT to Northern in SWT Livery.

The only trains that I am aware that got painted in SWT colours which they did not keep as they were swapped for Class 158's is the class 170 trains that sWT use to have in their fleet.

Sorry to confuse. My assumption is that NXEA would need something to replace the 156s - what else could they get other than 150s? I assume their allocation is as tight as everyone else's!!

They were 158786/789, handed back by SWT to the leasing company who then temporarily leased them to Scot rail, the DaFT then allocated them to Northern on the proviso that they were sub-leased back to Scot rail.

As mentioned, on lease, I saw them together at Dundee back in 2008. Woke from my sleep on the Caledonian Sleeper to look out the window and see two South West class 158s, confused to say the least!
