Realtimetrains seems to indicate that most services at Hairmyres have been using platform 1 in both directions. Is it the case that the loop is actually 2 bidirectional lines and most services outside the peak hours will use platform 1 to save customers having to use the footbridge? Apologies if this has already been answered!

When there on Sunday both platforms were being used between 1300 and 1530. But looking back to RTT for then it was showing platform 1 in both directions but the trains from Glasgow were showing Platform 1 but in RED typo. Appears to be the same case today.

The loop is indeed 2 bi-directional lines. The map at https://traksy.uk/live/M+11+HARMYRS is accurate. I haven't been watching, but you should be able to see on there which line the trains take. I'd imagine it's probably accurate on RTT, and they are just using one platform while they finish work on the other or something.

I asked how long it would take South Lanarkshire Council to charge for parking at the new Hairmyers Station, as they had previously charged for parking at the old station. Reply I got was that parking would be free for the first year but the situation would be reviewed thereafter. I interpret that as you will be paying for parking in a years time.

Interesting. The diagram i drew Traksy from was almost certainly right, but I've got a feeling the signal numbers were largely reused so RTT may just not have been updated.

Hairmyres Station looking good, but have noticed that the 201 services still terminates at the old station, and no busses appear to be using the new transport interchange! Seems crazy that the transport interchanges has no bus service to interchange with

As I understood it the old station only had parking charges to try and deter people from using it for the Hospital etc. Lots of other South Lanarkshire stations have big P+Rs (Cambuslang, Newton) and don't charge so I think would be unusual for it to be added at Hairmyres new station

Put feet on the ground and the 1st train came in and checked RTT, whilst in the station, and it Flagged Up platform 2 as it should have and as was the case. Just did a check at 2200 on RTT and it is now showing as a RED 1 for that same very train and every other one. Now a very confused.com person

Doesn't First need to go through a formal process to alter a bus route? Possibly wanted to ensure that all the infrastructure was in place before making the change, would expect the 395 EK to Neilston to use the station too. Some negative comments on-line about the new junction layout at Redwood Drive/Eaglesham Road, this now is quite a sharp turn for large vehicles causing encroachment into other lanes, buses will find it tricky

According to the First Glasgow website, with effect from Sunday 15 June, 2025, the 201 will terminate at the new Hairmyres station.

Passed through Hairmyres today, was surprised to see Barriers at the station. I wonder if East Kilbride will get barrier. First suburban station to get barriers ? I suppose Motherwell has them.

I noticed the barriers on a previous set of photos and had wondered how they would work in a practical sense. How would they be staffed and what do you do when there’s an issue and there’s no one there?

Will this prevent boarding if you don’t have a ticket? That will present a problem for concession holders as the machines don’t vend them.

Looking at an image from OB23Gone's recent post (below), it looks like you could just access the platforms via the stairs and lifts and thus avoiding the gates altogether?

Hairmyres TRACK SIDE Some Shots From Sunday & Wed WORTH THE WAIT looking very Good. Impressed especially when you see the twinning of the track through the station and the Loop Extension. But as said many times before on here due to a lack of funding a big missed opportunity to dual right through to a 2 platformed East Kilbride. On the Sunday there were a good many using the train services with more there just really interested in the finished product. Results were all very positive. Everyone and their friends and Grandchildren happily trying the lift on Platform 2 snapping away on phones and cameras and enjoying the view from the footbridge. Talking of Lifts The GIFFNOCK ones were still being worked upon on Tue 27th

Beyond Busby was never double: beyond the East end of the Hairmyres loop runs on embankment and cutting which were only ever built for single track, so it’s a monumental engineering task to double it. I think what’s there just now is all that can be reasonably accomplished.

what’s left to do before electric trains can operate? The scheduled date of December seems a long way off.

Well, they need some trains for starters. I believe there’s a further three week shutdown in August, presumably to liven up and test the wires?
