The Midland Mainline set had a blue hybrid GNER/National Express/East Coast power car at one end if that helps
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
EC have an exEMT set which is blue. Therefore 1 of the PCs would have been working with an EC set. There would be an EC 43 + 9 MK3s + EMT 43. No pulling. No towing.

Actually thinking about it, it isn't possible for the HST to be towing something, as towbars have a max speed of 10mph IIRC

Hmm I had two HST power cars hauling a 57 and a full Great Western sleeper train at much more than 10mph......

I suspect the OP has seen the MML set with an East Coast power car at the other end however

Weren't some of the buffer-fitted ones used in pairs to drag MkIV stock on test?

Indeed; in the early days of HSTs it was standard practice for an HST set in the south west with a dead power car to be assisted over Dainton bank by a loco, at considerably more than 10mph, and there have been many occasions since then when the HST tow bar has been used by a loco to rescue a failed HST set and dragged it through to a suitable terminating location (Especially Crosscountry sets it always seemed).

Isn't the ex-EMT set currently up north somewhere being repainted?!

There is still at least one MK3 still in GNER livery though..

Just a note about the ex EMT set without resurecting the other thread. 2 coaches should have been removed from the set Saturday to be sent to wabtec and the rest of the set was going to Craigentinny where the buffet was to be removed and sent to Kilmarnock for 'remodeling and relivery' which is how it was written on the sheet I saw. But back to the topic, the set had been running around as NX p/c-EMT rake-MML blue p/c. Is it not rare for HSTs to go to Glasgow?
