East Coast over running engineering works

Currently sat on 1E13 going backwards on a one hour coastal diversion.

Does anyone know the background to the latest over running?

Delay Repay in action although the Guard announced that First Class passengers should write to the TOC stating the head code, why is it different for First Class?

I was bestowing the advantages of my fellow rugby fan who flew to Scotland of the train over the plane. What a jinx that is as I sit here in First class with load of arses in my face and no food or drink for hours.

Oh and is that a crying child, great!

Good, as there was another EC train queueing up to get in to Newcastle.

Well at least I Can now say I have been pulled by a "Thunderbird" and I have been to Sunderland!

Is first class declassified? If its then any passengers with first class tickets will be entitled to Delay Repay and also some form of compensation for the lack of advertised first class accommodation. Providing the headcode will presumably make it easier to check that the service they're claiming for was declassified.

1E13 is being T'bird hauled to Doncaster.

No - even NRE are implying it isn't (sort of).

They seem to be posting a lot more information about certain disruption incidents at the moment, which is probably rather useful, as lots of folks will now be able to see it rather more quickly on-the-move!

Not really on a SIMBIDS line, as there are normally only signals at the beginning and end of it (in the wrong direction) so the middle section can be very long.

What do you mean by going backwards? In reverse formation so your forwards-facing seat is back to direction of travel? Or wrong-line working?

I am guessing you are going to a rugby match rather than wanting a service for Rugby?

I read it that the OP meant the train reversed at Newcastle to go on the diversion round the coast line.

East Coast should be charging extra for all the rare track. Some people would be dead chuffed just to go over the High Level...

Railway myth I'm afraid, always has been. The only restriction is that the pantographs have to locked down to ensure that there is absolutely no chance of it coming into contact with the T&W Metro OHLE.

They'll have to take it back up to Newcastle to turn it around again, iirc

SIMplified BI-Directional Signalling - it allows trains to run according to a more comprehensive timetable in both directions on a single line during incidents or planned works, without requiring too much faffing. All infrastructure is permanently installed, as far as I know. This is generally available on lines with limited roads in everyday and emergency use - e.g. areas where there are only two lines on a mainline which should ideally have four, where a pair of lines taken out of use would result in a complete block.
