Well, I hope for the sake of others, you're never in a position to have any influence on how people do things for those with disabilities. To say that it ruins the liveries is an outrageous thing to say - and one you may regret if you ever should find your own eyesight failing in years to come.

Also, how do you know how that person got to the station in the first place? Maybe they got a lift, a taxi or spent hours walking along the street - what concern is it of yours? So, they struggled to get to the station and can certainly struggle a bit more to find the door. And what about those damned wheelchair spaces that take up value spaces for people who can walk... (sorry, I'll stop now as I know it will turn into a 1,000 word rant!).

Ok, on this occasion, I maybe being a bit harsh; I'm not anti-disability in terms of measures taken to do with anything, I just wonder why this hadn't happened in the days of Intercity, ICE trains etc; have they received complaints because people couldn't see the door or the hole in the train? Maybe they have for all I know, it was just a point that I wonder how much difference it really makes.

Ok everyone, on the door issue I stand corrected on TGV's; my memory of them failed me and I had a tail between the legs moment when I saw the pics and realised they've been like that for years!

Just a quick update on the mystery big news, it isn't that of the Pendolino (although that is true also and should be on the route in July next year). All staff are the get a briefing on this big news which is now looking like more innovation to do with Eureka!

it hadn't been done because, to be honest, provision for the disabled even in the recent past was pretty shocking- hence the vast amounts of money in recent years to adapt even sixties/seventies/eighties buildings to be disabled accessible. Contrasting doors is somethinbg that's relatively cheap- it just requires a little bit of thought on the part of the livery designer as part of a process they would be doing anyway- at least, a bit of thought if it isn't going to look horrendous. In terms of brightly coloured liveries, I think the Stagecoach (EMT/SWT) corporate liveries actually do this rather well.

To be fair, the original Sud Est livery didn't have contrast doors! The Thalys and Eurostar sets don't either, but I'd lay heavy money that the Eurostar refurbishment will include contrast doors.

I always thought that the bright yellow vestibules on HSTs essentially served the same purpose as high-visibility doors without breaking up the outside appearance of the train. However, it would be worth checking to see just how effective these contrasting colours are. If they don't work, they just make trains look ugly for no reason, so people should justify their presence. Incidentally, Pullman cars have always had dark umber doors as opposed to the cream bodyside, and they still manage to look elegant.

Well National Express did manage to have such dim LED lighting in the vestibules on the HST refurbishments that they've now ensured NOBODY can see where they're going!

I passed Doncaster on Thursday and say outside Wabtec was a silver 91 (not 91111), no markings at all and I assume this will be to complement the MK4 set. Anybody know which one it is?

Saw this set at York the other night. Looks better in real life than it does in the photo's but it's still not brilliant.

I travelled on this set going up from Stevenage to Darlington - it was working the 07:30 KX-Newcastle on 13th August. Still had a blue 91 on the front.

As far as I could tell, nothing has changed inside.

None of them are receiving interior changes other than maintenance and repair work.

It is related to the Eureka timetable. We all know that at certain stations, the closing of Mk3 doors takes up time. They have invented a series of ropes and pulleys that one guard can operate and slam all doors shut in one go. Thats what I reckon anyway.

No possibility of a CIE-style retrofit of swing-plug doors I take it.

That would be absolutely brilliant! This is what the railways need a bit of Heath Robinson ingenuity!

It was in Glasgow central yesterday, looked nicer than in the pictures. It does look rather odd with the blue 91 at the end though!

I saw the new liveried train at Finsbury Park this morning and must say that, in the flesh, it does look very nice indeed.
