Is there a reason why the last Tube services are earlier on a Sunday night vs other nights of the week, and why this difference varies so considerably by line and direction of travel?
For example on the Northern line the last train on a Sunday night leaves Tottenham Court Road at 23:45 northbound and 23:41 southbound vs 00:41 northbound and 00:31 southbound on Mon-Thu nights. 56 mins and 50 mins earlier respectively.
The last Piccadilly line train from Heathrow Central (beyond Acton Town) is 23:27 on Sunday vs 23:45 Mon-Thu. Only 18 mins earlier in that case.
Heading out of London the last Piccadilly line train from Leicester Square (to pick an equivalent to TCR) is 23:37 westbound and 00:18 eastbound on Sundays vs 00:30 westbound and 00:35 eastbound Mon-Thu. 53 and 17 mins earlier respectively.
With the Victoria line from Oxford Circus the last train is 00:03 northbound and 23:49 southbound on Sundays vs 00:39 northbound and 00:30 southbound Mon-Thu. 36 and 41 mins earlier respectively.
With the Jubilee line at Bond Street, the last train is 00:00 both ways on Sundays vs 00:43 eastbound and 00:36 westbound Mon-Thu. 43 and 36 mins earlier respectively.
All four lines have a Night Tube service so it's not as if the engineering access times are materially different. Yet the Northern line seems to be the worst off in terms of how much earlier the last Sunday trains are, both in absolute and relative terms.
It's also surprising that the last ex-Heathrow Piccadilly service is earlier considering that flights are scheduled to land all the way until 22:55 every night of the week. Even if you're "hand luggage only", it only takes a very small delay (as I've experienced on numerous occasions) for that to result in missing the last Piccadilly line train of the day. The last train being 17 mins earlier is significant in that context.
Fortunately the Elizabeth line runs until 00:12 every day of the week - but on Sunday nights you're limited to night buses once you reach Paddington.

I don't suppose anyone who has contacts with LU timetabling has any insights on this?
I'm inclined to write to TfL to see what they have to say.
