Hi!

So I have passed my assessments, interview and medical with southeastern and have been accepted in to the company! Yey!

However I originally applied for a customer service role at Cannon street but was told later that I was given the job of platform staff at London bridge.

What exactly does working on the platform entail? I'm a little nervous and unsure exactly what is expected of me. Of course I have an induction and the training coming up but I would like to feel a little more prepared for it all.

Thank you for all replies, will really help set my mind at rest.

Its a good job. It involves dealing with the public so your customer service skills will need to be worked on. You will spnd alot of time patrolling.

Congratulations. I don't know anything about London Bridge but the role of platform staff usually involves Dispatching trains, dealing with customers and their enquiries. You may also have to help with disabled passengers who wish to board or leave the train. Depending on your shift you may also have to open or close the station.

Congratulations. I applied to southeastern not heard back yet. 1 of my platform staff applications was rejected, still waiting to hear back for the rest.

In the application they said the platform staff role is:
Your role

As a member of the station team you are the face of the company on the platforms and in your station – making announcements, answering queries and assisting the huge range of customers you’ll meet every day.

You will also have key safety and security duties - assisting with train dispatch, overseeing our electronic gates, as well as making sure our stations meet our customers’ expectations by undertaking various cleaning duties.

Also, platform staff are probably expected to deal with security, and probably contractors too!

London Bridge is CD/RA so you will be dealing with train dispatch. Ergo you will be trained and will gain your dispatch license.

You will need to learn various train jargon so you can communicate effectively with other members of the railway.

You should be conversant with the timetable and train frequency as well as local geography. Passengers will expect some local knowledge and interchanges for various stations on the network. Typically not just SE either as there are also Southern trains and Thameslink trains that run through London Bridge.

London Bridge is also about to undergo a huge upgrade and an absolute plethora of engineering works over the next 3yrs. No doubt you will be briefed on the Thameslink program and the work being undertaken so you can communicate that to the public.

You'll be kept well busy as London Bridge is mental at the best of times. No Thameslink trains stopping there for 4 years from December I believe so they'll relieve some numbers for you.

Good luck mate!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the replies, been very busy the last week or so, apologies for delay in replying.

I will have to start learning a few of the routes then and also some of the local landmarks. Not worried about dealing with customers, been working in customer facing roles for the last 6 years or so and I feel pretty comfortable with that aspect of it all. I'm sure when I have been through the training I will feel more at ease :D

Just waiting for my contract now, the woman said it would be here at the beginning of this week but it hasn't arrived yet. Have to keep telling myself they are just busy or it got delayed. Really really want this job!

Very excited

Thanks again for everyone's replies!

Hi there,
I originally applied for Station Staff but since passing the first assessment last week (woo hoo) my interview is now for Customer Service at London Bridge? Is that station staff all around or is that as in sitting at a customer service type desk?
