Good news now 37401 and 37411 have been shunted into place at Kingmoor ready to be moved by road next week. They are bound for Derby and/or Barrow Hill. Meanwhile, 37410 is inside the depot. (thanks to news on the WNXX forum).

Whoever came up with the dig at the usual traction in the press release want shooting (not literally) as the usual traction on the route is class 156 or admittedly the occasional 153, 142s only make the odd appearance there but must most peak times are 156s and I believe there is one strengthened set buthas to run some of the way with a set locked out due to platform lengths

With a couple of services I would agree, but for any service going by Sellafield a 153 will not generally suffice (being on your number-sake yesterday on the 1247 Carlisle and Barrow showed that capacity is needed throughout the day. All too often the double 153s/156s can be singles (the worst being the 0910? Barrow to Carlisle which is full and standing with a 156 so I dread to think what it was like when they left a 153 on it a few weeks back...)

Any extra capacity is good, if nothing else it should allow some cascading for units elsewhere.

Of course kicking out/shift change at Sellafield is the worst time, but from experience there are only a few other stations that generate a lot of loadings (being Workington and Whitehaven). Even then, for a lot of the day a 156 is sufficient.

The good thing about the Glo-Ex is that it provides the early morning service that was desperately needed.

The last time I spent any time at Carlisle the 17:XX to Barrow was a single 153 on every day but one, when it was a pair. It was absolutely wedged leaving Carlisle. On the day it was a pair, almost all the seats were occupied.
Is this service still a single 153 or have they rejigged the diagrams since my last visit?

Still a single 153 M-TH with the split unit diagrammed to work the 0550 Carlisle to Leeds with a 158 the following morning

On a Saturday the 153 is considered unnecessary on the first Leeds hence the 1727 being a 2 car to Barrow on a Friday

Don't know if I read it here or not but I think I read this diagram should be replaced with the LHCS

:roll: Just hang fire a moment with that statement, the parts have barely been removed yet. 37087 is expected to go first, yes it will lose parts but it may well stay with us for another few months as a loco can hold valuabe parts that are better being stored in the loco itself. This is why some of the 37s and 47s that are stored at Carnforth are still intact. 37229 will still be with us into 2013

Yes, 57310 is in Eastleigh at the moment undergoing an overhaul & a repaint into Direct Rail Services livery.

As for the picture of the locos at Barrow Hill - All of them are doing something on their own different ways, 37510 seems to be acting as a 'stored' shunter for HNRC at Barrow Hill, whilst 087, 059 & 47791 are Spares doners, especially 087 to the 37/4 project & 47791 has been a spares donor for years. Hence the poor external condition of the poor thing, which has given many parts to the Barrow Hill overhauled 47s including 47805, 810, 818 & 828.

37406, 37410 and 37426 have been sold to CF Booth's Rotherham. Just 37422 at Kingmoor has any hope of a future.

*Many of the DRS 20s will be stored soon with them expected to be overhauled for upcoming contracts such as next years RHTT season.
*Of the latest 3x DRS 37/4s sold to CF Booth's, two should move to Rotherham this week with the third joining them in the New Year.
*The DRS 57/3s (including the ex-Virgin examples) are now on WCML thunderbird contracts. 57307 is at Eastleigh at the moment.
*But, 57313-316 (still in IWCA pool) are not joing the DRS fleet, are stored at Wembley and have been rumored as either joining the WCRC fleet, joining the Network Rail fleet or going into store at Eastleigh.
*The current 37/4s owned by DRS (37401/402/405/409/411/419/422/423/425) should make up the fleet of nine 37/4s.
*And, I don't know which Blue & Grey coaches went up to Scotland. There were six but this is not all of them from Barrow Hill.

It would appear that DRS are taking on more 57/3s following the despatch north this afternoon of 57314 57315 and 57316 (all still IWCA) to Crewe Gresty Bridge from Wembley. 57316 was the hauling locomotive. Transfer to DRS will be confirmed once the trio are reallocated from the IWCA pool to XHAC. 57313 (IWCA) remains at Wembley.
