Hey!

Had the assessments yesterday. There was four of us there for DRS, two of us in for Carlisle, two in for York. We all passed the assessments, so we're now in the same boat as you LRV, awaiting the outcome of the MMI! Fingers crossed eh!

It was a long day for sure, especially as I got back to Glasgow at 00:05 this morning and had to get the missus to pick me up for the last half hour of the journey as there was no more trains!

Good on you buddy, well done! You must be knackered after all that, especially after travelling all that way from Glasgow! Kudos to your missus for picking you up as well! I'm still awaiting the results of my MMI as well; I was told 5-7 working days but the 7 days is up now and I haven't heard a thing, although I'm guessing that DRS are waiting for everybody to complete the tests then let everyone know at once; the waiting has been absolute torture!!!
Regardless of the outcome though, I'm pleased to have gotten this far (hopefully you are too), and if I haven't passed the MMI, I've got the psychometrics under my belt and will only need to do the MMI if I apply again! :)
Well done once again on getting through the whole day sir! :)

Cheers bud, appreciated.

Yeah definitely chuffed to have gotten this far! Just really hoping to have cleared what was more or less the last hurdle! I'm sure we'll find out early next week. Time is ticking now so I can't see them hanging around. Fingers crossed for us both pal.

Cheers Borocarl!

I received a call off DRS today. I passed the OPC assessment centre and they have offered me a conditional offer of employment! Obviously I accepted!

Chuffed to bits! The girlfriend has already been on rightmove looking at new houses!

Fantastic news!! Congratulations to you both! I wish I never messed up on the online tests lol, so did they give you an estimated start date? Its been good being on this forum watching each stage of the process, it started with quite a few of us but now it sounds like its been trimmed down for 2 people at each depot, you both have done so well and should be proud of yourselves.

Thank you! :) I was given a potential start date of early June. I'm bound for Crewe so don't know if any of the folks for Carlisle or York will start at the same time or not!

Awesome, happy birthday fella!

I believe the start date is 6th June. I was told by another candidate at the OPC that they were wanting 6 at Carlisle, 6 at Crewe, and 2 at York. However I was thrown a curve ball and was offered a different depot, which I accepted.

The first 6 weeks is all classroom based, so I wonder if they'll put us all together for that, if you know what I mean?

I rang back this morning to ask about start dates as my manager needs to know due to notice being handed in. I was told the first week in June; the 6th is a Wednesday so I would assume we'll start on the 4th? Hopefully we'll all be in the same classroom so we can put faces to forum names! :)

Well i'm out, failed the MMI on the last bloody question :{ And I can't apply to any enhanced standard companies now as i've sat assessments for enhanced standard twice. My only hope of eventually going driving now is if Northern are national standard only in their driver recruitment, according to the OPC I have one life left for national standard.

Ahhhhhh cin88 gutted for you! On the last question too!

Kylie, were we at the same OPC? You're going to York if so.

cin88 that's awful! Ironically, the last question was my best one because of my current employment! With regard to Northern, I'm pretty sure they accept "National" standard; loads of people have left from where I currently work to go driving with them.
Hope to meet some of you other folks on the training course, just hope I pass the medical! I should, but does anyone else always have that niggly feeling of doubt that something could crop up?!

Cheers Kylie, and you too!

LRV, I know what you mean, however my current employment requires me to pass quite a stringent medical, and I had one not too long ago!

But yeah I'm hoping they pool us all together for the initial training.

Oh, Kylie, I'm Marc whom currently lives in Scotland but I'm from Cumbria!

I remember you, I knew you'd pass your interview when we were waiting to go in and you were talking about past experiences etc...It made me worry that my answers were a bit too boring! Anyway I got through so can't have done too badly

LRV I have a niggly feeling about the medical too! I can't quite believe I've got the job yet so I guess I'm just expecting something to go wrong. Once it's out of the way I'll be happy!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Kylie! Although I had my examples nailed down, I was still wary of any follow up questions they had in store!

I too failed the magnificent 7 online test. I always found this job to be somewhat mysterious. Congratulations on becoming a signaller!

This is interesting that you still have a life left for National standard. Have you sat the tests for national? If not then surely you would have 2 lives left for national.

I’ve always even under impression 2 fails regardless of so called “standards” and that’s you out the game.

The OPC told me when I phoned them that I could go again for national standard only but i've only got one life. I've only ever sat at enhanced standard.

I didn't think there was an official 'enhanced' pass. My understanding is that you have 2 chances to pass the tests (which is the national standard) and that's it.

However some TOC's require a higher pass mark (enhanced standard), but this is set by them and may not be same as an enhanced pass at another TOC. If you fail to meet their enhanced standard but make the national standard then you don't lose a life. Obviously if you fail to meet the national standard then you'd lose a life, which if you only have 1 life left, is probably what happened to you?

Like I said in my original post I only failed on the very last question of the MMI (which in itself is national standard only). The first time I took the tests was for TPE and they didn't put me through for the computerised tests (they were running the tests over two days for some weird reason), but the OPC did confirm that i'd passed to national standard on the paper tests at least. With DRS they confirmed that I met DRS's standard on everything but just didn't hit the standard on that one MMI question, they said I have one life left but it'll have to be national standard only.
