Went from 2 positions available to 1 position. 1 less job so no need for as many applicants.
Strongest applications progress to next stage, for the others it unfortunately means that they didn't make the cut on that occasion.
The application needs to be as strong as possible, it's a bit of hard work involved to get it done but it's designed to be that way as it weeds out the desirable from the non-desirable. The amount of applicants for driver's jobs is only increasing as word spreads of the salary and a lot of people who have no interest in the job or railway decide to start applying as they see that £45K salary in the media. More applicants mean more competition so it's more important than ever to have an application that shines better than the rest to get past that first hurdle!

I don't dispute any of what you say, it's just the email wasn't a 'sorry you're amazing but not quite amazing enough to pass the paper sift' kind of email. That would have made sense even if they had reduced the number of vacancies because the initial advert never mentioned any numbers at all.

Anyway it's not an issue as I'm progressing with another TOC but I was just interested in what was actually going on with the Stranraer job.

Long term lurker of MANY years here but finally joined up to ask a few questions.....
I too am wondering what happened with this/these job(s). How many was there and were they filled or were they withdrawn?
Also, was the Mallaig job filled?
I am unable to relocate from Glasgow so never applied for these roles but wondered if it was internal or external candidates that got them, if they were local to the area or willing to relocate from much further afield and if anyone who was on the reserve list (particularly from the big recruitment drive in Sept 2015) was contacted for this role or if Scotrail don't keep people on file for that long?
Thanks.
