Does anyone know what failed on the Aire Valley line last night?

Utter chaos reigning at Leeds last night.

It was bad enough that the 144 on the 16:00 Manchester Victoria > Leeds had a 'defective engine on the approach to Leeds' (sic) according to the guard. I reckon it had had a defective engine for a lot longer than that as it was 20 minutes late leaving Morley, a station with no information facilities for passengers whatsover, and a godforsaken hole to boot.

Anyway, got in with 1 minute to spare for the 17:56 Carlisle (should have been on the 17:36 Forster Sqaure). Ran like the clappers, but shouldn't have bothered because nothing was going out. Apparently something had failed at Saltaire, but as usual none of the staff seemed to know what was going on (including the poor sods whose job it was actually to take trains out in that direction), and customer service people were conspicuous by their absence. I eventually left on the [packed] '17:50' after half six, which I noticed at Saltaire was being billed as the 18:40 to Skipton and therefore not very late (the cheeky gits).

Does anyone know (1) what failed, and (2) why all the Bradford Forster Square workings were affected if the blockage was at Saltaire?

I got criticised by the wife for not having driven home, but a colleague told me that some cretin had crashed his car on Manningham Lane last night, and it took him an hour to drive from Bradford city centre to Shipley anyway. Hah!

No idea what had failed, but I remember last year when there were problems with the points at Ben Rhydding and a lot of the 333s got stuck at Ilkley and Burley-in-Wharfedale. Again this affected the Bradford trains. Do the units still run something like Skipton - Bradford - Ilkley - Leeds, or are they self-contained to Leeds - Bradford - Leeds/Leeds-Skipton-Leeds etc?

I believe the Leeds and Bradford operations are self-contained for most of the day, with the Leeds > Bradford diagrams being covered out of the Bradford pool (Skipton > Bradford > Ilkley> Bradford > Leeds > Bradford > Skipton > Bradford etc)

Looking at the system, it was 1640 BDQ - SKI (2S44). 333002. I was also on the 1750 last night - wedged is certainly the word!

333 reliability is very poor at the moment. Tonight the 1726 LDS - SKI was caped at Shipley due to a brake problem - and the unit was.... 333002! Thought in fairness it isn't just that one that is sitting down in traffic, there have been several failures over the past couple of weeks, involving different units.

There was a failed 333 in platform 6 at Leeds this am, dont know how long it had been there but was causing a bit of hassle for the signallers because the xx40 east coast departures had to be found a different platform

We were due to travel from Ilkley (ILK) to Bradford Forster Square (for a few aperitifs at The Fighting Cocks and a curry) on the 18.51 ex ILK yesterday.
Train was cancelled, then suddenly appeared, and left Ilk a few minutes late. We arrived Shipley were told to "all change" and await train to Forster Sq (due to failed train elsewhere).
Then told to stay on the train as it might be going to Bradford.
Now all very thirsty and still awaiting the curry in Bradford !
Then told to get "orff" the train.
The stock train left and headed "orff" to Bradford, did a cross over and returned (empty) going North.
We all did a hasty run through the subway and picked up a train from Skipton to Forster Square.
Why were there problems ?
I'm none - the wiser !
The Northern staff had no idea why either.
Because of the routing of their trains the failure could have been anywhere on the Skipton, Bradford, Leeds, Ilkley "triangle".
Train ran back to Ilkley no problem ex Forster Square at 22.38.
Good curry, good company, good night had by all !
