Does anyone give personal names to their trains

My local one was the Dunstable Dasher.

As people in Dunstable attempted to Dash out of it ?

Any time I've went for the 21.10 to Tain, it has left from platform 7 out with the main concourse at Inverness. Somehow platform 7 reminds me of a naughty step so with regards to the 158 doing the move, I affectionately call it "the brat"

The 1200 from London Paddington to Swansea (I believe it was a Sunday) some years ago got nicknamed by me and heart-of-wessex whilst watching it leave Paddington from Royal Oak. Think we called it 'The Clag Express' but I forget exactly what it was now.

I forget what my last MU was that stalked me, but the string of expletives that come out of my mouth when I see it on my train aren't polite enough to post

You might be. And FCC on the departure boards at Kings Cross at least call the non-stop to Cambridge "The Cambridge Express", so that's its proper name. It doesn't (usually) get a name southbound officially.

I've heard of 170397/398 being referred to as Pinky and Perky.

In a similar way, the two Mk. 4 FO vehicles converted from catering cars (11998/999) were referred to by various East Coast staff as 'Annie' and 'Clarabel'. One magazine pointed out this was actually wrong, as the 'Clarabel' in the Rev W Awdry books was actually a composite vehicle not a first class one.

Not so much of a loco or train but a few years back we had a job which was a Kingston Rounder-Salisbury-Kingston Rounder and a lot of drivers called it the Salisbury Sandwich.

HC on desiro units was called Hounslow Crap by some but I renamed it myself to Hounslow Crew.
