To be honest, don't fancy travelling long distances, just prefer to stay around Mainline Britain, however suppose I could try, but local flights in Britain, but then again, probably would just get a train

Have you ever been on a Ferry/Ship that's an alternative if you don't want to Fly ?

Yes, done ferries to Isle of Wright, from Lymington pier, Also, Mallaig to Armadale, for, the Isle of Skye on Cal Mac ferry's,. enjoy doing those, plus have done Fleetwood to Isle of man, on Ferry, perhaps one day, could try a local flight as a alternative, as for me Isle of Wright or Scottish islands are my choice of freedom at Times, especially the Scottish Islands,

Ive been keen to do Rome by rail. I done it via Switzerland to Milan in 2019 but flying looked around £400 a flight my trains are atleast 1 thousand pounds without hotels so the trip could be atleast 2 thousand. I remember before Covid flights were about £200 for two return. Without doing sleeper trains is there any cheaper way to do it? I know Paris to Milan will be 4 hours in the 2030’s which should make it more affordable.

An interrail pass.. 4 days is £240, plus a hotel stay somewhere along the route. And seat reservations. So maybe £400 is the minimum you could do it for, but that includes stopping somewhere interesting.

I'd be surprised if the Lyon-Turin tunnel makes prices any lower, it's not going to be cheap to use. It does make Rome reachable in a day of course

I'm on 25 flights this year so far, most I have ever flown. Mostly leisure although there was a few work ones earlier in the year. Most of my flights are with Ryanair and easyjet.

Apparently I'm on 16 for the year, going to 17 tomorrow. Most on Norwegian, with the rest across Easyjet, Ryanair, Wideroe and Loganair. I might have to do a couple more before christmas, but it's fair to say I don't really enjoy the experience anymore.

I think I may have done more in the year I was travelling to the US every couple of months, and certainly I spent a lot more time on planes that year.

I’ll finish the year on 16 I think. This year I’ve flown with BA, Easyflot, TUI, Jet2 and Ryanair, so a decent mix. I’ve not flown with Wizz this year which is unusual for me!

Work-wise, I do 4 x US trips a year and 2 x Hong Kong or Singapore. Then we usually take a fortnight break somewhere fairly far flung on top of that, so I guess my carbon footprint ain't great.

I fly reasonably regularly although I'm not a big fan of it, particularly the faff of security and hanging around waiting for boarding. Add to that delays, which seem to happen regularly on long-haul flights such as my most recent trip to the US where the outward flight was 5 hours late with no apology or even explanation given and the return flight was 4 1/2 hours late, puts me off even more.

If those flights were both on UK Airlines you must have been in for over a bag to assuage your inconvenience ?

Both flights booked through BA although outward operated by American. Not even a food voucher issued for the delay to the outward flight but we did at least get one on the return, £9 each. Rest assured I've put in a claim for the delay for which I'm hopeful of a successful outcome.

As a regular traveller to Orkney (usually twice a year), I fly. Two flights each way, with possibly a stay in one of those airport hotels at Schiphol to catch an early flight. & I usually make it home on the same day on my return.
& everytime I try to plan the journey with the intention to avoid flying I give up. It always ends up with three days each way. :'( (I don’t really get some sleep on sleeper trains, night buses/coaches, intercontinental flights - a cabin on a ship is always fine, but then in my student days I worked on one, so you’ll have to learn one way or another :E:lol:)
The puzzling of the possibilities always take sometime  <D & in the end of the day they were always rejected.
& everytime the puzzle gives different solutions even though cost is not one of the parameters.
I do have some flygskam, but this is a bridge to far.
& I did fly to Katowice a few years back for the wedding of an Orkadian friend. He said: oh you but you could drive there? o_O (12 h - just me on my own <(). Train with overnight break in Berlin
All other journeys within Mainland Europe are made by train (& ferries of course :!: )
