What's the probability that the Birmingham to Bristol line will be Ok by Next Wednesday (1st)?

I heard that there's been a freight train derailment at Yate recently, but the NRES website appears to show Voyagers running on time between Birmingham & Cheltenham, so when did it re open?

Is the WCML between Euston & Glasgow still intact?

Blasted im worried if the summer saturday services will be affected. I booked a sleeper on this coming friday night arriving at Plymouth in the morning booking another service arriving at Paignton for the VXC to Sheffield.

Ticket prices were £21.10 for the sleeper seat + £40 for the berth, Plymouth to Paignton £3.55, Paignton to Sheffield £39.60 and Sheffield to London £14.00

Grand Total = £118.25
This is unfair

Is it not something like "Outwith Exceptional Circumstances" or have they removed that loophole?

(I remember they claimed that every cancellation was an exceptional circumstance).

Services on Virgin Trains Cross Country routes (excluding Birmingham-Reading) are now able to operate normally

Customers intending to travel between Reading and Birmingham are strongly advised to delay their journeys until a later date. If travel is absolutely essential today, customers may travel via London using First Great Western and Virgin Trains West Coast Services, who are both accepting Virgin CrossCountry tickets. However, please note that First Great Western services are extremely busy. Midland Mainline and GNER will also accept Virgin CrossCountry tickets to allow customers from stations north of Birmingham to travel via London

A full refund will be given for unused tickets where a journey has been prevented due to flooding.

Looks like your ticket will be refunded if you decided not to travel, and other TOCs are accepting FGW tickets. Meanwhile, Birmingham-Bristol TM has now reopened anyway, so you shouldn't have any trouble .

It all looks fine for the journeys you've given, leaving only the question as to why anyone would want to submit themselves to a Voyager all the way from Paignton to Sheffield. The word masochist comes to mind.

Goody, I SHOULD be able to claim back my York - Hereford ticket for last weekend then. Hopefully. Just wondering what will happen with my Arriva one...

Yes that is the correct service I booked. It ould be great if the sun came out then but that is highly unlikely.

Bad news - the line between Didcot and Oxford will now not reopen until at least Saturday 28th July subject to improvements in the flooding situation. Sadly, the heavy rain forecast tomorrow isn't going to help things.

Meanwhile, there are new flood warnings for Reading - note that the railway runs right next to the Thames there!

Hi,
I am certainly glad that I had my holiday to the Isle Of Bute the week previously and while there was a couple of really wet days, at least the railway from Didcot to Glasgow and Wemyss Bay were open there and back. I did have some trouble returning on Thursday the 19th when a track circuit failure had trains diverted from Crew to Birmingham via Stoke On Trent then to find a point failure at Norton Bridge. This got me home two and a half hours late with most of that delay at Birmingham.

However the extensive rain since really has made it's mark and I feel for those who have had their homes and lives affected by it.

Bruce Mclean in Australia sent me a few pictures that he received from a friend in the U.K. of the flooding in the Oxford Worcester and Banbury areas and Brian Daniels (BrianEWS) sent me a few at Hinksey to the south of Oxford station, which all proves how damaging this flooding has been. I would ask you to respect the copyright of the photos I have included below.....

Banbury Station (north) You can see that the river (on the right) has overflowed across the railway even to the north end down sidings. The tops of two ground signals can just be seen in the down bay platform area.

There are streams both sides of the railway and here you can see that they have both become one.

This is the staff entrance gate into Hinksey Yard. You can tell the level of the water, which is almost at road levelby the car seen on the right, which is on the road bridge crossing the railway.
