Paddington is having a lot of issues today - power failure on the H&C and Circle lines in that area as well.
The issue on the Circle & Hammersmith was a direct result of the Network Rail issues. Network Rail reported that some of their customers had self-detrained onto LUL tracks, it was not a power failure as such, more an intentioned switch-off because of the risk of unauthorised persons trackside.

Contact wire is confirmed down on Line 4 into Paddington.

2P39 (Portobello Jct), 1T49 (OOC on the DRL) and 1Y46 (Jacob’s Ladder - Ealing) were trapped but were rescued (with the help of) the Hayes (Inner), Hayes (Outer) and Willesden MOMs respectively.

I thought Paddington only had wires installed in the last couple of years. So its just wait and hope that the trains will be restored before end of services for the day? In Australia this kind of event the entire line is bus replacement which in the case of Paddington would be Paddington to Cornwall with major delays all day!

There are no busses... and the wires here have been up for 20odd years...

Paddington to Heathrow Airport (Airport Junction on the mainline) was wired in the late 1990s so the type of overhead equipment used is an older and less reliable type to that which has been used beyond Airport Junction.

Paddington to Airport Junction on the GWML and Heathrow branch were wired in 96-97 very cheaply and both this and the previous problems are in the cheaply done bit.

The South West (also Bristol, South Wales etc) services are started at Reading, there's an alternative train from Waterloo to Reading via Staines, Guildford or Basingstoke.

The intermediate stations between London Paddington and Reading don't really have an alternative.

I reckon it's all my fault as I'm currently watching the latest episode of Paddington Station being shown on C5. A lot seems to go wrong lol

No trains from Basingstoke towards London today, Woking area is closed for engineering works

GWR website now says “due to damage to the overhead wires between Cheltenham & Swindon fewer trains are able to run. If they don’t know where it is, what hope for the passengers!!

A difficult incident but a bit of balance is needed.

On Wednesday last week it took me over 4 hours to drive between junctions 15-14 of the M1. Didn’t move a single inch for almost 3 hours.

No information whatsoever. You could say it was a joke really.

I always find it strange that at times of disruption people expect a higher standard from the railway.

Hopefully this means they will allocate some funding to accelerate the replacement of the old OLE between H&H and Paddington. It's the most important area of electrification, no point spending so much on new OLE elsewhere if it keeps failing in the Paddington area. Do we know what exactly is being replaced atm?

Issues with it seem to happen frequently. I know the recent incident wasn't a direct result of the poor/old equipment but it meant that all 4 lines were out of use instead of just the 1. At least this one was resolved fairly quickly.

They are already funded to modify the OHLE between Paddington and Airport Junction under the Crossrail project. It includes replacing certain head spans with portals, but details of exactly what and when, and the exact timescales, don’t appear to have ever come to light.

The 1103 Paddington -BRISTOL (800) ran fine if a little busy, but a colleague who was on the 1133 to Carmarthen was stuck and one of the first to be cancelled.

I arrived at Paddington at around 11:15 yesterday morning from Cardiff. The fast lines were shut almost as far as Reading for engineering work so everything was on the slows

Weekend closures on the mains/reliefs, alternates quite a bit.
