It has Not happened again this post refers to overhead wire damage, the issue just now is power supply problems which are two different things

Great Western Railway are reporting damage to the overhead wires between London Paddington and Slough.

All lines currently blocked.

Line is shut and is expected to remain so all afternoon. Waiting on staff to start evacuating stranded trains.

Looks like there's damage to the OHLE again.

@GWRHelp
There's damage to the overhead electric wires between #LondonPaddington and #Slough. Lines are currently blocked. Transport for London, South Western Railway, London Underground and Chiltern Railways are accepting GWR tickets.

@BTPPaddington
Overhead wires are down close to Paddington. Please refer to @TfLRail @GWRHelp @HeathrowExpress @nationalrailenq for latest information. Emergency service are on route inc @networkrail. Please do not leave trapped trains, remain on board. Rail Tracks are very dangerous.

Any ideas what caused it?

Paddington is having a lot of issues today - power failure on the H&C and Circle lines in that area as well. Oh and to top it all off, there is a march meaning bus routes are operating less.

No specifics currently, just "damage to overhead wires" being reported by news Twitter accounts, and National Rail saying disruption expected for the rest of the day. Waterloo is already getting busy with people trying to get to Reading with SWR.

That isn't what GWR are saying:

View attachment 54460

That information was not the information that was available when you made your original post. They was saying it was power supply problems and they would have said power supply problems until they sent staff to site to check the fault then found wires damaged. So my comment was made in reference to the information that was available at the time

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
TfL Rail is still running the ITT from Heathrow Central to Terminal 4 but that is all they have. Ticket acceptance in place on route 140 and London Underground.

Heathrow Express suspended even on the ITT section it seems.

Looks like could be a 387 or a Heathrow Express, nice to see egress operated by passengers on a train within 15 mins !!

as far as I can see passengers being diverted onto Waterloo from Reading services (half hourly) and also via Windsor (half hourly) and the possibility of diverting Weybridge services to Reading.

Heathrow Express is deploying a "rescue service" to collect passengers from a stranded train heading towards Heathrow and return them to Paddington. Unclear if this train was the source of the problem.

...which would be fine if not for the Underground power failure.

Given that it was only a few days ago when it took 3 hours to evacuate a train which was very close to Victoria, I can understand that passengers aren't feeling very confident in the rail industry's ability to look after them when things go wrong (not saying that I approve of that).

even so... 15 mins... no one will have even found out what has actually happened by then ! anyway first call 1150 and two trains evacuated by 1320, not going to do it much quicker than that !

Was very much an exception rather than a rule!

It looks like things are on the move again, two trains which have been standing at Ealing Broadway for quite some time are now moving towards London.

Greetings from the 15:39 Waterloo - Reading service, an extremely cosy pair of 455s.

Not the best day for Paddington to close seeing as Woking area is closed.
