Avanti West Coast 1S52 1018 London Euston to Glasgow Central seems to have been stuck outside Euston for about an hour now, could anyone shed some light on the situation?

Avanti West Coast reporting some lines blocked between Euston and Watford Junction.

"Following damage to the overhead electric wires between London Euston and Watford Junction all lines have reopened and trains can now run normally."

Am currently travelling from Preston on 1M08, 07 38 Glasgow Central - Euston. After several minutes of slow signal-hopping from Kenton, we've now crossed to the slow line at North Wembley and are making good progress towards Euston.

Edit: Train-to-train evacuation still in progress as we passed. Unfortunately I couldn't get to the window in time to get a photo or video. Stranded train is stopped with leading cab about 200 yards before the entrance to Primrose Hill tunnel.

Potential to be the same issue with a section insulation on Line E at WM2071A/B points.

How is evacuating a trainload of passengers to an adjacent train safer or quicker than dragging the failed set back to Euston. Or don't they have Thunderbird locos that can do that any more?

Thunderbird was in Crewe and driver unavailable until 1400…

I didn’t think there had been Thunderbird locos on the WCML for many years now.

Perhaps they need to review this when this franchise is taken over?

The early driver didn’t go due to the shift time. And the Pendo didn’t need rescuing. It moved under its own power.

Costs a lot to have drivers on call just in case. Maybe they should have some cables and winches at Euston to drag trains back down the bank instead?

More seriously, if there was a donkey battery on the train would this have allowed it to move to either Euston, or Wembley Central once the pantograph had been secured to clear the line? Or had the OLE damage also disabled something on the train?

I doubt it, but train to train evacuation will likely be easier under 1 unified system.

Probably not, not sure there is even one there...The lack of safety equipment and sometimes emergency couplers means it rarely happens... That said, I recall a time when a Derby Etches Park 08 did go to the rescue, maybe to Spondon as there was nothing else.

I'd have thought grabbing a 66 from Wembley Yard or 92 from the Depot more likely than an 08. Emergency coupling, attach on country end, push back into Euston to detrain then drag out to the depot for repairs.
