The 'first stop' outside a city always seems to be forgotten about.

Manors still has a few people each day during the rush hours. Plus it seems to have had a service increase, there is now a train which stops around 2pm which never used to AFAIK.

Not Normanton in Yorkshire. Pear Tree and Normanton is on the south side of Derby.

No idea, I just went on EastCoast and typed in Normanton to check the service level seeing as I was fairly sure Normanton (West Yorkshire) had a regular service, not realising there was also a Normanton in Derbyshire!

Actually Normanton seems to be a popular name. There's South Normanton in North Derbyshire and Normanton on Soar in Nottinghamshire, but neither have stations.

There's loads of them- pretty much means "northman's town"- all seem to be settlements started by Vikings or similar.

Strines station on the Hope Valley Line always seems very quiet, and only about half the trains stop there.

Anyone remember Godley East on the Manchester - Hadfield/Glossop line? When they opened the new Godley station, the original was renamed Godley East and had one train in one direction on a Saturday only which lasted until about 1995.

Salwick could do with an increased service, though my preference would be for Cottam to get its own railway station. Another topic for another thread, methinks!

Strange that it serves such a big area of NW london though - mind you there's [plenty of tube and other rail statioins too - apparently its used as a sleeping location for tramps, and as a toilet too hock:

There are plenty of other options to travel yes - plus if it was closed then at least the track could be realigned to get a decent line speed through it as its crap as it stands.

Been a massive problem with the tramps and such like and no matter what is done they keep coming back - not just tramps either - all the junkies use it too..

Similar thing exists at Bordesley too, stand in the building there and you think you're in a toilet

Yep, they'd only need to do that Saturdays though - its closed Monday-Friday

I remember many years ago i got a very late train to london from the kent coast and it stopped at Hoo halt... very odd
