Delay repay question

I intended to travel from Cambridge to Peterborough via CrossCountry using my GA season ticket

The 9pm train was cancelled with no other direct train scheduled afterwards with at least a 75 minute delay if I took an indirect route

Fortunately a colleague was going same way by car and gave me a lift

Can I still claim delay repay even though I didn’t use the train at all and wasn’t technically delayed ?

Thanks

I believe the short answer to this is No. If you didn't travel by train you weren't delayed by train. It does seem unfair as you were forced to make other arrangements, but I don't think you can make a claim in this situation.

You might be able to claim for abandoned journey due to cancellation, but I'm not sure how you would do that with a season ticket.

Assuming that you had a ticket already, then you can refund it in full without any admin fee from the retailer where you purchased it. I’m assuming you didn’t use the ticket at all.

I believe this is possibly one of the few times where claiming delay repay despite not travelling is possible? Iirc (possibly only some TOCs) administer a partial refund for service disruption on a season ticket through the delay repay system. I suspect you'd need to check the websites of the TOCs concerned.

It depends when you arrived at your destination. If you took a lift and were delayed you can claim. But if the effect of your lift was that you weren’t delayed then you can’t.

I made a journey yesterday and paid £19.70 for a return ticket. This is £1.40 more than a single ticket would have been. The outward journey was o.k., but there was a long delay on the way home and I was over an hour late home. This qualifies me for a delay replay claim but, as this was on the return journey, would I only get my £1.40 back?

Delay Repay is calculated on the fare actually paid, not a hypothetical comparator. So you will get 50% of the full return fare back assuming you arrived 60-119 mins late.
