Delay repay query

I travelled Scarborough to Chester today using tickets bought on this very site.

The 09:55 Scarborough to York was late in from the depot and we arrived York 14 minutes late, ‘missing’ my LNER connection to Doncaster. I say ‘missing’ because , because of the overhead wiring issue near Peterborough, all LNER trains were at a standstill.

I eventually got a Crosscountry to Sheffield, to pickup a service to Stockport there. I eventually arrived in Chester 2hrs late.

My question is: Do I still claim from TPE, as they were the initial cause of the delay, even though I didn’t ’miss’ my connection at York, and it was really the overhead line issue that caused the biggest problem? I think so but thought I’d ask the hive mind here!

Thanks for any advice

I would say yes; Delay Repay claims are handled by the first operator that caused a delay that fouled a connection or otherwise led to the passenger's final delay. The fact that a different operator caused the bigger delay doesn't matter.

I'd say claim from TPE. Their 14 minute late arrival at York at 1059 (rather than 1045) meant you wouldn't have made the cancelled 1055 LNER for Doncaster / Kings Cross, had it actually run. Eight minute minimum connection time at York, so a valid connection.

Just to close this thread off. I submitted a delay repay on 16th Aug to TPE. It’s just been accepted today on 29th Aug. I did get an email about a week ago saying it was in process but they had an unusually high number of claims. Anyway, 100% back, which was £41.20.
