Given the almost incredible lack of professionalism in the correspondence received from LNER, and their subsequent radio silence, is anyone ‘in the know’ able to check that the bank account details supplied are actually correct?

The letter looks authentic LNER, with enough other features on it that could be used to check its authenticity. However, although it's unlikely to be a classic fraudulent scam, it is designed to work in exactly the same way. There are probably hundreds of these being sent out and they'll not only catch the occasional fraudster, they'll also hook in enough frightened but innocent people, to make it a very worthwhile moneymaking exercise.

Very dodgy. A corporate scam

Following a review of our Delay Repay system we have identified multiple irregular claims submitted by yourself.
An incorrect use of the word "yourself", too.
