But everything is balancing the needs of politician types, local people and their supposed “must haves”, the data showing where people actually go and what the infrastructure can reliably supply.
The old North Kent timetable, stuff was fast from Woolwich to London Bridge decades ago and fast between Woolwich and Dartford also, so places like Abbey Wood and Charlton didn’t get Charing Cross trains.
The fact is that where we are now, and how the world is changing, and how much of the North Kent passenger flow is effectively going to dead stop at Abbey Wood (and those trains will basically churn everyone from the Kent side off and then rebuild passenger numbers from Charlton onwards), means things had to change.
The Dartford to Charing Cross stopping services were not viable. Neither, seemingly, is even Bexleyheath to Charing Cross. Things move on, people will stomp their feet, and they’ll still use the train. They’re not getting in the car, and they’re probably, for leisure, already making sure someone drops them off at Abbey Wood or what have you.
I look forward to the new timetable.
