Still nothing?

Railcare was brought in the end by knores bremse or something like that, currently working on 319's and mk3's, 15x's.

Knorr-Bremse is the new owner.

That'll be the first unit done then. Will be a shame to loose the Dynamic Lines as I think it's one of the smartest liveries around, whereas the West Fleet sprinters look less smarter in plain blue when it's been around for a while, got covered in brake dust and dirt and lost some of it's shine. Wonder if it's got the new type LED Lights yet too.

Very exciting! !!!
Love the lines on the hst but the turbos are vinyled which doesn't look so great
They plan on fitting laptop plug ins as well as a new compliant toilet etc sure will look great. .. not long ago they had a refurbishment: new carpets painted walls and pis
Wifi was the other promise

Indeed it is done. I have seen some pictures, inside and out. Outside it looks brand spanking new! It is at Reading Depot right now I believe. Not convinced about the interior. But, you be the judge on that! No pics myself I'm afraid. Sorry! I will say that the inter-connecting door behind the new toilet looks a tight squeeze!

Think the new toilet module accessible seating call for aid etc are the main DDA changes but the plugins might be a separate project
Are the roofs repainted as well?

Yes, I believe the whole lot is repainted (I must admit, I wasn't paying much attention to the roof, but it looked like a full repaint job).

Looks like the LEDS are being done separately 166204 has dynamic lines and LEDs

I like Dynamic Lines on the HSTs but I don't think it's ever worked to well on the DMU fleet. The 150/1s in Plain Blue look much smarter in my opinion.

I remember Mark Hopwood, MD of FGW, saying at a public meeting that he preferred painting to vinyl as it kept its shine better.

Not sure what effect it would have on Turbos (they're aluminium I believe?) but the vinyls on the 150s have been found to be rather detrimental to the bodyshell beneath, with trapped water causing some corrosion and so on.

The new livery looks good, but those new light clusters need to be in black to avoid the googley bug eyed look!

Correct - the Networker fleet is of extruded aluminium construction which can still corrode, but fortunately not as badly as the steel bodied West Fleet Class 150/2s sadly are, although they weren't helped by the lack of maintenance from their previous Wessex Trains days either.

I see what you mean about the bug eyed look too - these BMACs look rather large compared to other ones, perhaps it's the shade of yellow that makes the lights look larger. I think the best route to take would be the Chiltern style route of covering the lights in, rather than leaving them exposed like that though!

Has there been any pictures on the net yet of the first DDA 166?

I noticed that when FGW did their refresh/refurb of the 165s in 2010, they didn't install contrasting flooring in the doorways, surely that was one of the easiest to do when you are installing new flooring!

Additional things that probably need doing:
Lower door buttons
Doorway lights at feet level
New door release alert

RVAR regulations said:
(3) Subject to sub-paragraph (4), each passenger doorway in the side of a rail vehicle must be fitted with an audible warning device which must emit warning sounds in accordance with sub-paragraph (5) inside and outside the vehicle in the proximity of each control device for the doorway or, if there is no such control device, adjacent to the doorway.
(4) Sub-paragraph (3) does not apply–
(a)to a passenger doorway which is, at all times when it is capable of being used by a passenger, under the direct supervision of a member of the operator’s staff who is standing adjacent to the doorway;
(b)to a rail vehicle when it is not being used for carriage; or
(c)where a rail vehicle is operated exclusively on a network where, at all stations or stops, passengers waiting on platforms are separated from the track or way by screens or other barriers, if audible warnings of the operation of those screens or barriers, equivalent to those required by sub-paragraph (5), are given at those stations or stops.
(5) Subject to sub-paragraph (6), the audible warning device must—
(a)where the unlocking of all the passenger doors in the side of a rail vehicle is activated by a member of the operator’s staff, emit a distinct sound for a period of not less than 3 seconds commencing when the doors become openable by passengers; and
(b)emit a different distinct sound to that required by paragraph (a) and, where applicable, paragraph 1 of Part 2 of this Schedule, commencing not less than 3 seconds before the door starts to close.
(6) Sub-paragraph (5) (a) need not be complied with if paragraph 1 of Part 2 of this Schedule is complied with instead.
(7) In this paragraph “sound” includes the spoken word.
Door controls (power operated)
4. (1) Subject to sub-paragraph (6), no control device to enable a passenger to open or close a power operated door, other than a device to which sub-paragraph (3) applies, may be fitted to a rail vehicle unless—
(a)the centre of the control device is not less than 700 millimetres and not more than 1200 millimetres vertically above an imaginary horizontal line extended from the door sill of the relevant doorway;
(b)the control device is operable by the palm of the hand exerting a force not exceeding 15 newtons;
(c)the control device, or its immediate surround, is illuminated continuously, or flashes at no greater frequency than 2 hertz or 2 flashes per second, whenever it is operable;
(d)the control device contrasts with the surface on which it is mounted; and
(e)the control device is identifiable by touch.

Floors
3. At a passenger doorway in the side of a rail vehicle the edge of the floor along the entrance must be illuminated by a light placed within or immediately adjacent to that edge.

Note: The 166s do have a slightly different carpet in the doorway than the rest of the saloon, however I'm not sure if it is considered contrasting enough as both are of dark colours.

Are the current door buttons even compliant? They're pretty similar to the the door button fitted to lots of BR era units which have been replaced.

Don't think so otherwise surely they would have been kept?
I see Southeastern on their Networkers replaced the inside buttons but not the outside. Southern kept the old buttons on the outside of their 455s and until recently probably inside too. Likewise the 456s kept their old buttons throughout.

Where is the current wheelchair space on the 165/166 units? Can't believe I've never noticed it :?

No wheelchair space on a 165/1. You could probably use the area with tip up seats intended for the trolley buffet by the tables in a 166.

A new accessibility feature being added on the new ICEs (and possibly the 374s by extension) is a clicking white noise sound from the open door to help guide blind people

http://youtu.be/Y5Adpyr0HGs

Wonder if any UK stock will get similar?

If they do I hope it's instead of the "door release" tone, not as well as.

Hasn't RVAR now been totally superseded? The current approach seems much more sensible, accepting near compliance to the new regs if total compliance isn't reasonable.

I don't believe there's been a photo posted of 166221 here yet, so here's mine. I know it's not a great shot (I was on platform 9 and it went through on 15), but it shows the new livery and how 'fresh' it looks:

Is it me or does the cab end look a little ugly now? I wonder if it would have looked better with either the front being yellow all over or the blue continuing around the lower part of the front

It would certainly be helpful however some considderation needs to be given to the amount of noise generated by DMUs of which we still have many compared to mainland Europe and perhaps this sort of thing would be anoying to the enhabbitents of units such as 185s, 170s etc with no end vestibules?

There were a few off-topic posts regarding Mk3s in this thread so a gentle reminder that this thread is for 165/166 discussions and that discussion about the recent changes to FGW Mk3s can be found here.
