With turbos set for portsmouth to cardiff and Bristol metro in the next few years will this refurbishment be complete by then?

When will work start to fit new air com to all the turbos? I also heard about USB sockets is that still going ahead? I understand wifi is being fitted

How many have so far been repainted with new toilets fitted?

Are we to expect future repaints to include GWR branding

I also hear a 150/2 is finally out with a new toilet? Unclear if it has a new passenger information system as well

166201, 166202, 166215 and 166221 done so far I think. 166209 was reported as being in the works.

One odd thing about it is the way in which FGW declassified the lower numbered driving car ie 58101-58121 and kept first class in carriages 58122-58142. The lower numbered driving car is the carriage which has received the universal toilet and has had first class restored and now it is the other carriage which no longer has first class.

All hopper windows removed, but then nothing ever goes wrong on Chiltern...

To be fair, the kit they used on the 165s is very reliable and would surely have been a better way for FGW to go when trying to sort out the 166s than the rework of the previous system. This did improve matters on the original - but still breaks too much and is very noisy.

I'm not convinced. I have never, ever, in summer, been on a 166 with acceptable air conditioning (i.e. the 21 +/- 2 degrees fGW quote it is specified to do). It's always been blowing hot (ambient outside temperature I guess) air.

Same as a 350 - it mostly doesn't.

Hot summer weather does indeed remain the Achilles heel of the 166 system but the old kit was also just as capable of dying in the depths of the winter, resulting in a fridge on wheels, something I have not encountered since the changes were made.

With FGW getting some 365s, will they get aircon retro-fitted? It always seemed a major omission from what are otherwise decent units.

Let's also hope they won't be wasted on the branches

Presuming Weymouth to Bristol will be turbos with more SWT services in there as well

Seems logical that the branches will be 365 workings, as the 110mph top speed of the 387s will be needed for fast line duties.

209 is in service with the mods now,I was on it earlier.

Bit quicker into service than the previous ones. It was reported on uk-rail as returning on this working on Saturday.

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P93170/2015/03/21/advanced

166211 then reported as leaving Reading Traincare Depot on this working

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P93153/2015/03/21/advanced

Presumably that will be back in four to five weeks time given that the path was last used on 14 February.

Asked the question today and the 365 fleet is going to get the "Chiltern" air con mod.

Also they are going to be fitted with body side cameras (as are the Turbos) as the station platform DOO equipment isn't being altered/replaced. NR are keen on phasing it out on cost grounds. Can't say I am surprised about that!

Well the 365s are 100mph stock, and seem a bit wasted pottering around local routes

Thanks, maybe SE will install aircon on the 465s as well.

Do the 365s all still have their 3rd rail equipment? If they do and they're compatible they could be sent to SouthEastern to work with their 465s and 466s to strengthen services

When is all this air-con work due to start a massive undertaking guess ltv commuters wouldn't be pleased if turbos got better air-con upon departure

GN commuters won't be pleased if the 365s receive a proper air-con only after their transfer!

Bit late now that FGW is bagging the 21 units, but as for the question, not sure how much work it would take to get the shoes (re)instated. Most modern EMUs (including the Networkers - definitely all those which are DC-capable) utilise a 750V DC bus so I don't suppose there's much else work required. Depends on each unit probably.

I don't think we've built any 75mph emus since the PEP types and they're not going to import a handful of those for the branches, so 365s it will be. Don't forget that in the case of Henley there are through Paddington services in the peaks, so unless those get the chop, you will still need units able to mix it with Crossrail services anyway.

The 465/6s and 376s are all 75mph emus, plus the Overground 378s

If there are through trains to Paddington, then yes they'll need to be 100mph units...

Sorry, should have specified 25kv ones - and forgot the 378/2s, but they won't be coming available any time soon and their current seating arrangements probably wouldn't go down too well with the Henley commuters.

Currently on one of the refurbed units. First impressions are not good at all. Still haven't sorted the air-con and the train had been sitting half in Southall station with a fault for the past 10 minutes.

I've been on one, and found the bog pan was so crammed in the corner that you'd have to sit sideways.

That said, that's a common fault in houses, where bathroom designers must have been short-legged because otherwise it's impossible to sit on the bog without getting third degree burns to your knee from the radiator.

The work currently under way at Wolverton to fit the DDA-compliant toilet to 166s involves precisely zero work on the air conditioning system, nor on the bits that make it move... it's basically just the work on the interiors, new door buttons and a coat of paint.

That's not a problem unique to the Turbos. It's a standard problem with that toilet module which is being fitted to several trains at the moment. I know 319s have the same module fitted.

Sounds like it's a standard "crap" problem:lol:
