On a weekday, the 10:25 Carnforth to Barrow is a Northern Rail service.

On a Saturday, the corresponding connection at Carnforth is slightly earlier, at 10:09 (giving a 9 minute connection time), and is a Transpennine Express service.
...which of course means that it is not loco-hauled on a Saturday,
as it is on Mondays to Fridays.

(on Saturdays, the only loco-hauled services south of Barrow
are the 11:56 Carlisle to Lancaster and 17:31 return)

Hi mark

In Carlisle at the moment

Any Cumbrian coast locos planned to arrive or depart apart from the one you mention at 17:31

37606 seemed to be having trouble on last nights 17:31 from Lancaster. Sat at Arnside for around 20 minutes then proceeded at 40mph through to Barrow with 37402 providing power from the back.

Highlights the advantages of 'top and tail', even though it's not the longer term solution. I don't want to go on sounding like a prophet of doom when the DBSO's are introduced, but I hope that the reliability of the 37/4s will be top notch on these services....

I have seen a Sellafield nuclear flask train hauled by a single 37 - a failure of one of these could already disrupt Cumbrian Coast passenger services.

37218 now replaced 37606 working on the north end of the set which started in Barrow today with 37402 on the rear, 37423 (north) and 37419 (south) on the other set

On a train...somewhere!

It can't have been loaded with one loco ... standard practice for loaded nukes to run with two locos.

You can say the same for any trains with only one traction unit mind ... and failures happen at much busier spots than on the Cumbrian Coast!

It was 633F on 9 June - 37218 heading south to Crewe with 2 flasks.

Anyone know if there has been more swaps since 218 went on it and which set is which if not.

37423 was at the north end of the first train north this morning and seemed to have great problems accelerating certainly after Silecroft to Sellafield. Lateness was compounded by a stop at Drigg where the brake compartment stopped short of the platform and caused a draw forward once the cyclists had disembarked.
Also apparent are new 'LOCO STOP' boards which the loco crew seemed to have ignored at Drigg (unless the boards were in the wrong place).

409 and 606 worked the 1004 Preston today, with a tatty BSO in VT livery. There was a queue of WCML trains ahead so we left Lancaster 18 down and it stayed that way. The connection wasn't held, not surprisingly.

At least the delay wasn't 37 induced. The reliability seems to have improved - at least delays seem to be down to other things now.

37402 (37218) on the first off Carlisle this morning.
37606 (37409) on the first one off Barrow.
I'm currently on 409 heading south on 2C40.

Apparently the no heat loco tends to be on the north end - something to do with one service not having a second driver for the back loco. May not be relevant soon though, DBSOs from Monday 29 June is the current gen - we'll see.

ps heading east tonight to do the NYMR glam rock diesel weekend bash - and no I'm not wearing flares....

They've swapped the sets over. The 10.04 ex Preston has worked through as the 11.38 off BIF. I'm now heading north on 37218 on the 11.38.

Do both locomotives provide traction for the journey or is the one on the rear idling or dead?

Rear is idling from my observations.

So to score both you have to do it in both directions.

Can anyone confirm whether 218+402 ended up at Carlisle tonight?

I assume still the same four out as previously reported?

What about the DBSOs?

I had 402 (218) on the 0515 this morning.
It should have ended up at BIF tonight.
The 11.38 off BIF was 606/409, no swapover today so they should end up at CAR tonight.
DBSOs still not working properly I'm told, top and tail to continue for the time being.

606 is having a rest, replaced this morning by 423.
409 (423) on the 05.15 ex CAR
218 (402) on the 05.46 ex BIF
