As far as I know there is no town in England, Scotland or Wales called Christmas Island. The clue is cryptic: it does not mean what it says, but it does say what it means. There must be a way of reading the clue that points directly to the answer even if the apparent meaning is designed to mislead.

After the answer is revealed, anyone is free to PM me if they feel the clue is unsound or if they can suggest where it might have been better phrased.

A good match, but no. According to the rules of the quiz, Starcross just isn't sufficiently well known to be a fair selection.

The word "interstellar" should suggest that the extra-terrestrial element is more than simply "star".

EDIT (13 Jan): With almost a whole week having passed without a response, I shall bring this round to a close. The answer was Leominster. Open Floor.

Leo is a constellation (i.e. an interstellar pattern); a minster is a type of church

Did Dave Cousins' heroine actually drive this fast?

OK - perhaps this was a bit vague, so I'll knock it on the head as it's difficult to give a clue without giving it away.

Dave Cousins [of "Strawbs" fame] wrote a song entitled "Grace Darling" [on the "Ghosts" album].

So the answer was Darling ton

Clues????

What sound does a growling dog make?

If it's not a car, bus or lorry what kind of road vehicle is it? Not many options left.

The town is in Scotland, has a railway station and is on the coast.
